But if I were in Poca's situation and I felt like it wasn't right, I would have gone with John Smith, to later go with John Rolfe lol. Though I am not thinking like Poca right now, so I would choose Kocoum as he is more my type, I don't have a problem with serious guys.

I personally see nothing wrong with this guy. The movie says we're supposed to dislike him because he's "serious," but as her father points out, he's loyal, strong, has a good heart, will build a house with sturdy walls, and will keep her safe from harm.

And Kocoum does constantly keep trying to protect Pocahontas, and comes running every time he thinks she might be in trouble.

I'm not Pocahontas, obviously, so I think a guy who is "serious" could be a nice complement so someone free-spirited. One of those "opposites attract" situations.

Considering what a jerk John Smith became in the sequel, then of course Rolfe. I guess I'm not that free spirited and adventure seeker as Pocahontas but still Kocoum isn't my type. Why would I need someone to keep me safe from harm and build me a house?

John Smith became a jerk in the sequel and while the fact that Kocoum is serious never bothered me, I always found him kinda boring and more like a big brother to Pocahontas rather than someone who truly loves her. And like manu962 said, I don't need someone to build me a house and keep me safe from harm, I can take care of my self. And Kocoum is not at all romantic and that's a huge problem for me... John Rolfe is a gentleman and he knows how to make a woman happy. He respects Pocahontas and cares deeply about her. What else do you want?

I would have been more concerned with the the WTF moment of getting captured Anglo-Powhatan war before I choose a man, though I would get my smallpox shot first.

I hate John Rolfe and in my opinion she's much better off with John Smith.
