Well, here it is. I tried to be as objective and open-minded as I possibly can, so I hope I am not too biased. Anyway, let's begin!
UPDATE: Okay, now Rapunzel is in the countdown! :)
Number 10: Aurora
Aurora...zzz...she doesn't really do anything. I am sorry. She is cute in the period she is awake, but...that's it. The problem is that her character is not expanded enough. I am sure that if she spent plus time awake, she would be much plus interesting.
Number 9: Rapunzel
Rapunzel, Rapunzel...she kept sliding down my list. Now she is at number 9. The problem with her, to me, is that she has not introduced anything new to the table, tableau when it comes to characterization. It's just like this: throw in some Ariel, a little bit of Jasmine, and Snow White into a blender, then pour out the contents and mold it into a person; toi get Rapunzel. Another issue is that she doesn't grow ou change throughout her movie. She stays the same throughout. Flynn is the one who changes and grows throughout the story. To me, he is the real hero.
Also, if anyone is a Mary Sue, it is Rapunzel. First, she somehow can fight like an expert with her hair, when she has NEVER been out of the tower before that to have experience. In order to be a good fighter, toi have to have experience. There is also the unoriginal personality, which I already explained. Finally, there is the fact that NO ONE hates her. NO ONE. Mother Gothel cared about her to an extent. So does Flynn. Everyone in town loved her. Even the guys in the pub l’amour her in like two seconds, which pisses me off to no end! The other princesses had to WORK with relationships to get people to like them, with the exception of Aurora and Cinderella. Seriously! I will name them off right now:
Snow White: Grumpy doesn't like her immediately.
Ariel: Eric, Grimbsy, heck the whole kingdom.
Belle: The Beast.
Jasmine: Abu.
Pocahontas: John Smith.
Mulan: Shang and the whole army.
Tiana: Naveen.
Rapunzel: NO ONE.
Just...argh. NEXT.
Number 8: Tiana
Okay, so Tiana has been moving up and down in my list, like jasmin has. I have grown to l’amour them both. The reasons why Tiana is a place higher than Rapunzel are that:
1) She has an original personality.
2) She grows and changes as a person throughout her movie.
I admit, the romance on her side was really half-assed, but she really is a breath of fresh air. I l’amour how she is very ambitious to get what she wants, and how she is not going going to give up. She is very admirable. With that said, I like her, but I like the others more.
Number 7: Pocahontas
I feel terrible for placing her this low. I really do. She has to be, in my opinion, the most beautiful out of all of the princesses. The problem with her is that, like many people has a dit before me, is that her personality immediately disappears after she meets John Smith and then the two of them are boring together (unless they are making out with each other, of course.). I also feel that Pocahontas is not the best at making the most obvious decisions. I mean, it is so obvious that she has to save John Smith, and yet she goes to Grandmother Willow to get the answer in a plus obvious fashion. Just...agh! Why, Poca, WHY?!
Number 6: jasmin
jasmin keeps moving around in my list, and finally ends up where she was first originally. LOL. How sad, huh? But really, she has grown on me. I really like her. I like how she is not afraid to speak up and to stand for herself. She is also extremely intelligent, being able to think on her feet and to pick up small details. She is awesome, and I really like her because of her personality.
Number 5: Snow White
Snow White is impossible to hate. She is so cute; possibly one of the most cutest cartoon characters on the planet. Sure, her voice is irritating at times, and she sometimes makes stupid decisions. However, she is so sweet and adorable. Her smile is contagious, and her innocence is refreshing compared to a lot of other characters in today's media. I l’amour how she is able to stay optimistic despite the Queen out to get her. She really deserves so much plus recognition on here, because she is the very first one after all!
Number 4: Cendrillon
Ah, Cinderella...she has been a part of my childhood for so long. Compared to the other three Classic Princesses, she is not a damsel in distress, in my opinion. She does everything in her power to go to the ball in an assertive way. Heck, she even goes to the ball HERSELF to get the prince! Snow White and Aurora just sit there, on the other hand, montrer us that she is the most proactive of the classic Disney Princesses. She has lots of strength emotionally in order to deal with the abuse she has to live with every jour and to keep a smile on her face while doing it. Sure, she receives a little bit of help, but she won the Prince herself with her warm personality and her looks. In the third movie, she becomes even plus badass. She sneaks into the château just to win her Prince back, breaks out of the citrouille carriage on her own, and rides on a horse in an epic fashion in order to stop the wedding. She is willing to risk it all. So, long story short, Cendrillon is awesome. :)
Number 3: Mulan
Mulan is a very awesome heroine. She is very Rebelle for taking her father's place in the army and for fighting with the rest of the guys. She cares so much for her father and is willing to do anything for him, even if it takes putting herself in danger. She is also very smart and resourceful, as we can see with the use of the canon, cannon to make the avalanche. Of course, she has her flaws too. She is clumsy, shy and at times can be unsure of herself. Mulan is a great character to watch on screen because it is amazing to watch her change from an unsure, shy girl into a confident, strong warrior. With that said, go Mulan!
Number 2: Ariel
Oh, Ariel...I l’amour this girl to pieces. :) She is an amazing character and is one of the most interesting of the Disney Princesses. She is bubbly, fun and energetic. She is also very cute and innocent looking; no wonder Eric fell for her! :) Out of all of the Disney Princesses, she is probably the most flawed (which in my opinion, is a good thing!). It makes her such a realistic character. She is rebellious and goes against her father. She does not always make the best decisions either, one of them being to visit Ursula. She can also be very impulsive and make decisions too quickly without realizing the consequences. There is also another reason why I l’amour Ariel so much: her determination. She has great ambition and is determined to explore the human world and to get her true love. She is willing to take many risks to get her happy ever after. She Lost all that she had, including her voice, and she just kept on going, kept on trying to fight for her love, even when things were looking terrible on jour three!
To be honest, she was one of my role mannequins growing up, teaching me how to face my obstacles from my disability. I have cerebral palsy, which is brain damage. I got it three days after I was born due to a lack of oxygen in the brain. (my lungs were underdeveloped; I was 10 weeks premature.) CP can affect any part of the brain, and therefore, any bodily function. I was one of the lucky ones, getting a very mild case of it. It affects my walking, making me walk with a limp and my right hand shakes. I have speech problems too. I had always watched TLM while growing up, and it was Ariel who taught me to be determined. I was determined to learn how to walk, talk, and be like everyone else. The doctors back then hypothesized that I was either going to be:
a) autistic
b) mentally retarded
ou c) both.
And boy, did I prove them wrong. Today, I am a freshman in college as a musique Ed major with a 4.0 and on the Dean's List. I have spent hours upon hours of speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. I have come so far from where I used to be, from a toddler who was only able to speak par repeating simple words ou sentences and following simple commands to a normal girl now.
All in all, I congratulate Disney for making this awesome character, because they did an amazing job. Thank you, Ariel. toi are so fucking amazing.
Number 1: Belle
toi all probably saw this coming at this point. Gah, don't hate me Belle-haters! *dodges bullets* I hope toi guys don't think of me as being an insanely biased.
But anyway, I l’amour Belle. She, unlike some other heroines, doesn't wish for love. She is only interested in livres and her world of imagination. She wants adventure in her life like I do, something different. (especially because in her town, the only fate that women get is that they have to marry well.) She is brave, intelligent (or very bright and witty), selfless and very caring. Her story is so much plus exciting compared to the other movies! :) Belle has her own share of flaws too, such as her curiosity, being condescending to other people, and her stubbornness (which puts her in quite a pickle. :)).
People may say she has a lack of ambition, but I don't find this to be particularly true. Before going to the castle, we have only known her for five minutes through one song as well as the rest of the town, and that is not much time to montrer anything happening. It is just setting the story up and introducing the characters, in my opinion. Also, her father is VERY absent minded. He doesn't really pay attention as to what is going on around him. As stated par one of the directors, if he went into town, he would still be in his pajamas. It is because of this that she has to stay home, make sure he eats and takes care of himself, etc. It's obvious he shouldn't be living alone, because in one instance he goes off into the woods, alone, without make sure he has the supplies that he needs, and then almost freezes to death. It is no wonder that Belle still has to stay home.
Also, I feel like I have to defend this, but Belle is not that much of a Mary Sue than some of toi may think. Besides the flaws that I have named above, hardly anyone likes her in the town she lives in for her personality. HARDLY. Everyone is gossiping about weird she is behind her back. Some of them even gesture how weird she is. When she did talk to someone (the baker), he ignored her, not giving a shit about what she had to say. Lefou and Gaston don't respect her either! The only people she actually likes and who give her respect in the town is the bookstore guy and her dad. So, no, no one worships her in that movie besides Gaston. Belle also had to work on her end to get the Beast to like her, who hated her in the first place!
I'm sorry for ranting toi guys...^^; I know this is an opinionated article, but I really wanted to put my thoughts down. Thanks for reading.
