This is a sequel I haven't seen in forever so I'm actually a little excited to watch this movie, even if it's a movie I'm not that big a fan of :P

Tonight's rewatch: Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World
Last time watched: 2005-2006

How much did I like this movie as a kid?
I was 5 ou 6 years old when this movie came out on vhs and of course, with it being a cartoon, a Disney movie, and featuring familiar faces I begged my dad to get me a copy. I wasn't too big a fan of the original at the time, but, again, cartoon, Disney, familiar faces, but I still wanted badly to watch it. When I did watch it I had fun at first but then a bit plus than halfway through I was bored during the rest of the movie. Like the original, I didn't really understand what was going on, why Pocahontas had to leave her accueil and meet the king, and even at that age I didn't get how Ratcliffe was able to lie about what happened in the first movie when there were people who saw what happened and there was the fact that John was shot. And there's the fact that 5/6 yo me couldn't figure out how Pocahontas just left John Smith for John Rolfe after everything that happened in the first movie and after finding out he was alive. Even the "twist" that he was alive wasn't even a shock to me at that age. For a while I just kept the movie on for background noise and when I tried watching it again in middle school the results were about the same.

How much of this movie have I forgotten:
For one thing I forgot that only a few minutes in this movie already had one continuity mistake; Nakoma a dit some time had passed since John Smith died and yet John "died" before Rolfe even met Pocahontas' father.

The animation, while not as good as the original, is actually good for a direct-to-vhs sequel. It's still smooth and doesn't look like something for a tv montrer like Return of Jafar. I think my favori part of the movie montrer this animation has to be when Nakoma is saying goodbye to Pocahontas. But there's still plenty of scenes where the animation is too...cartooney if that makes sense.

I know Pocahontas and John Rolfe didn't get along at first but I forgot that it felt so completely out of nowhere. I get that Pocahontas may have been frustrated that John Rolfe butt in when Pocahontas was trying to keep the settlers and Native Americans from attacking each other but I wouldn't expect her to get that mad.

When I was a kid I never understood why Uttamatomakkin was carving into a staff but now that I'm watching it and understanding it's so he can count how many white people he sees in Londres I have to ask what the point of that was. Sure, it was funny that he ended up with a toothpick really quick but it's never brought up again. And as much as I like Urramatomakkin I didn't see much point in him being in this movie either.

I never understood why Percy was randomly afraid of Ratcliffe, we never saw him abusing Percy in the first movie and we never saw them together again for the rest of this movie

The songs and jokes in this movie actually makes me forget I'm supposed to be watching a Pocahontas movie. Where Do I Go From Here and the reprise are definitely Pocahontas-esque but What a jour in London, Wait Till He Sees You, and Things Are Not What They Appear seem like songs that belong in different Disney movies, not Pocahontas. At least in What a jour in Londres Pocahontas' lyrics fit with her character. And I know in the original there were some jokes, especially with the animals, but it was all balanced out with how serious it was. It doesn't get serious until halfway through the movie at the ball.

I forgot about Queen Anne's little glances in this movie like when Ratcliffe tells King James John brought a woman and the King is shocked and when Ratcliffe calls Pocahontas a savage during dinner. She doesn't even need to say anything for the audience to know what she's thinking and when she does actually speak it's to stop her husband from having a fit and to listen to what Pocahontas has to say. She is the most underappreciated character in this movie.

I'm not a huge fan of John Smith but I am still so incredibly angry that he was willing to just let Pocahontas' people die in order for her to stay sûr, sans danger ou talk her out of talking to the King. This is the man who took a bullet for her father and tried to convince his men that the Native Americans weren't a threat and there was no or in the land. He was so out of character in this movie I was ready to turn off the tv. And even with how out of character he was in this movie I still prefer him over John Rolfe.

Movie:
I still didn't like this movie as much as the first, this one looks like it was targeted for little kids with no real thought put into it. The plot wasn't bad but the characters are either bland ou ooc, the songs didn't fit well with the story of Pocahontas, and Pocahontas and John Smith breaking up in this one just so she can be with John Rolfe, a character we only met in this movie and hardly see with her in any romantic scenes was just...dumb. I know couples break up and déplacer on and meet other people but for three years we had Pocahontas and John Smith together and there was hope that someday they would be together again but then...seriously what the heck.

Rating: 0/10

Aurora was starting to get plus confident. After being scarred par Maleficent, she had felt very uncomfortable with her appearance, and would refuse to go out in public, unless her face was covered. But she would still avoid people either way. She placed a lot of value on her appearance. But now she was plus confident. Her parents had convinced her to go out into public, without her face covered. She was worried. She didn't know how people were going to take this.

What if they hate me? Aurora worried.

"Stop worrying," Her mother told her.

"How did toi know I was worrying?"

"Pretty obvious, Aurora....
