I just had this crazy idea - In the suivant months, I'll write a series of 8 articles (well, I'll continue only if toi like them, of course). The first 7 articles will be about separate aspects of the DP films (Score, princess, couple, screenplay, villain, sidekicks and animation/art), and in the final article I'll make the average of the grades I gave the films in each aspect and make my favori DP films liste = )

The first article is about the scores! Enjoy =D BTW, all the pictures I used feature my favori song from each movie.

10. Cinderella - 7,0

It sure has a lot of nice songs – My favori one is “A Dream is a Wish your cœur, coeur Makes”. “So this is love” and “Cinderella” are very nice too. But the rest of the songs feel plus like a childish album and don’t have much of a message ou big importance in the screenplay – I personally don’t understand why “Bibidi bobidi boo” got an Oscar nomination. Plus, it sounds considerably dated.

9. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - 7,75

Just like Cinderella, this movie has a couple of nice songs, including one of Disney’s sweetest l’amour songs, but most of them are childish. However, there is a very likeable childish score in the movie, during Snow White’s dance with the dwarfes. This song fills my bedroom with joy whenever I watch the movie. The instrumental opening of the movie is very epic too.

8. Mulan - 8,0

I honestly don’t know who composed this score, but I have to say that the person did quite a good job. I mean, out of all the DP movies, this is the one where the songs were harder to fit in, due to its chinese setting and deep story, and though the job was well-done, it’s still one of Disney’s weakest scores. The solo song of the princess is short and unmemorable, but 2 following songs make up to it: “A Girl Worth Fighting For” and specially “I’ll make a man out of you”.

7. Aladdin - 8,75

Aladdin’s score has 2 main problems: The first one is that most of the songs are made to sound funny, and end up not being as memorable as most of Disney’s songs (in the case of “Prince Ali” and “A Friend Like Me”). The seconde one is that after great villain songs in THE LITTLE MERMAID and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST it is pretty disappointing that the movie’s villain only sings 2 ou 3 lines. Other than that, it’s a score full of joy, sustained par “A Whole New World”, one of the best songs of all time.

6. Sleeping Beauty - 9,0

This ballet-inspired score is glorious, and I would have ranked it even higher if it worked well as a movie score as it does as a piece of art. The biggest problem is that most of the songs are sang par chorus and the only memorable one is Once Upon a Dream (one of the best l’amour songs from the cinema). However, it has some of Disney’s best instrumental pieces.

5. Tangled - 9,1

Its score is great as a whole, but individually, as brilliant as they are, the songs can’t compare to past Disney classics. “When will my life begin” can’t compare to “Part of your World”, “I See the Light” is a poor follow-up to “Beauty and the Beast”, “Kiss the Girl” and “A Whole New World” and “Mother Knows Best” isn’t as good as “Poor Unfortunate Souls” and “Friends of the other Side”. However, the movie’s songs are good enough to provide one of DP movie's best scores.

4. Pocahontas - 9,25

Every single song in this movie is fulfilled with tons of energy, mostly because of Pocahontas’ voice – That is noticeable whenever she sings – Just Around the Riverbend, couleurs of the Wind and specially in the impressive final musical number – Savages. One of the problems of this movie is that its score is way better than the movie itself – Mine, mine, mine, for example, is too good to be sang par such a poor villain like Ractiffle. The instrumental score in the end of the movie always gives me chills.

3. The Princess and the Frog - 9,3

Maybe this one is lower in most people’s lists, but I have a personal attachment to some songs of this movie. “Almost There” feels like me chant about my hard work to achieve my dreams, while I feel like Tiana while she’s trying to get to the restaurant during “Down in New Orleans”. I also feel like its reprise could be the theme of my happy ending too. Putting that beside, we have to assume that all the songs have great quality (after all, it was the first DP movie since Aladin to have plus than one song nominated in the Oscars). The biggest problem are the sidekicks songs, all disposable.

2. Beauty and the Beast - 9,75

This score has the charm of Sleeping Beauty, but it manages to be catchy and memorable at the same time. It’s epic and gives the movie the musical feeling it’s famous for. The songs even manage to fix some holes in the plot – In the case of “Something There” and “Beauty and the Beast” itself. In fact, I feel that if we took away musique from all the DP movies, this one would be the most affected. There’s not one single song I dislike and it has a lot of instrumental tunes too.

1. The Little Mermaid - 10,0

This score reaches the deepest feelings from my cœur, coeur – Both in instrumental moments and during Part of your world – which is my all-time favori song. It is filled with joy, in momments like Kiss the Girl and Under the Sea. And the surprising is that even managing to do this, all the songs have an important function in the story. Poor unfortunate souls was the song that introduced Villain Songs in Disney, and I still think that “Gaston” ou any other villain song made aftewards is able to reach its level.

Bonjour! So basically I'm doing a liste in no particular order at all (except from oldest movie to youngest I suppose. What I'm trying to say is that it's not a countdown.) that shows a liste of my favourites from that particular movie.
Sounds simple, right? (And I also have a ranking of where that movie is on my favourites list, which is out of twelve for twelve movies.) And the captions under the pictures are my favourite quotes.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (1939)

Favourite Character - Snow White
I l’amour everything about Snow White! She's cute and optimistic and sweet, how is that not loveable?...

Bonjour! In my last article I defended both Cendrillon and Snow White. Now I'm going to defend Aurora and Ariel.

Aurora -

Most people either have a l’amour ou hate relationship with Aurora. I l’amour her, but she's not my favourite. Everyone complains that she has an underdeveloped personality and she does nothing, but most of all, people are frustrated about the fact that her eyes change colour.
In contrast, I don't believe she has an underdeveloped personality at all. Out of all the Disney Princesses, she has the least screen-time, (I think it was eighteen minutes ou something) and I think Disney...

First we want to start with our opinion on each DP era.

Elsa, is my favori DP currently and I thought of montrer my opinions about her.

We first meet Elsa when she is sleeping and Anna wakes her because "the sky is awake" and they have to play.
She first hesitates and tells her to play par herself but when her sister asks her to build a snowman she can't resist.
This part shows Elsa's personality before being isolated. We can see that she is the elder sister and tends to act plus mature and calm, but she enjoys being with her sister and shows her playful side.
And we can also see that she isn't afraid of her powers and likes to use them.
"Shshshsh!!! Anna, can't toi stay calm for a minute?"
"Shshshsh!!!...

A vote was recently made about who was the most selfish DP, and I was shocked and annoyed at what people were saying about Elsa (and Merida... But I guess I may have to make that article later) being selfish.

I know this point is already being debated on the poll, so some may find it a bit repetitive to read this, but I wanted to make a really detailed examination about Elsa and her 'selfishness'.

One argument I read was: "in the beginning part when she forbids Anna to marry him, it's just because she doesn't want to see Anna have fun with others while she is alone in her own sadness...."....

If most of toi like me have grown up with The Little Mermaid and have followed the films and TV shows, I think toi realize when it comes to the story of the rebellious redhead from under the sea, it's not completely there.

Now I didn't see The Little Mermaid in theaters, but a lot of toi did. It after all was the highest grossing animated film at that time. And of course, toi all loved it. So when toi found out that Disney was making an animated series about the movie, toi of course were very excited. I myself grew up watching the series on VHS's and one of the VHS's I owned was "In Harmony."...
