Time to take tally how the songs did – the following liste is NOT solely based on my feeling. It’s based on the ranking the songs (and only the songs, not the score pieces) of the films got so far – I took the average of the placements the songs got and made a new ranking out of them. The fanpop opinions are based on picks. This is not the final rating – I’ll take a closer look at the scores, too, later on, before I make a final soundtrack ranking. Here the articles I've written so far:

10. The Princess and the Frog: I have to admit, I’m not surprised par this – Although I tried to give the songs the benefit of the doubt, and rated them up at every opportunity, once even totally contrary to populaire fan opinion, that one was the worst par far. And I don’t even think that’s related to the musique style – Disney has used Jazz in films before, and I always liked the songs, from the crows in Dumbo up to the swingy tunes of Aristocats. While I’m not an avid Jazz fan, I’m open to every kind of music, and the songs in this movie just don’t cut it. They are nice, but nothing plus and the texts are neither lyrical, nor especially witty.

Fanpop says: Seriously: How could this one not get voted as the worst? I don’t ask because of my opinion, I ask because no other movie was so often in the bottom in the picks, and not one single song of it ever managed to get a top-rating. Without my own vote, this would have been ended only the third worst.

9. Aladdin: That on the other hand surprised me a lot – yes, I downgraded “A whole new world”, but that’s only one song. Looking through my reasoning I realized that the songs in Aladin are fun, but most of them don’t tell much ou add a lot to the story. Mostly they are about giving the Genie an opportunity to play around. The songs from the other films have simply plus substance.

Fanpop says: Apparently fanpop likes songs just for fun, because this one actually got exactly the same ratings as Beauty and the Beast – which again surprised me a little bit. Not that it was higher than my own rating, I kind of expected that considering the popularity of “A whole new World”, but on par with “Beauty and the Beast”? That’s somewhat strange, considering the results of the other picks.

8. Sleeping Beauty: I really adore the soundtrack of Sleeping Beauty, but I’m the first one who would admit that the songs are mostly nothing to write accueil about – with the notable exception of “Once upon a dream”. They are not bad, not at all – they do exactly what they are supposed to do. And pop songs wouldn’t really fit into this art work either way. But the musique originally wasn’t written to sing on it, and it shows. Though I am surprised that it beat Aladdin, it does make sense, considering that the use of the songs in the movie is much plus thought out.

Fanpop says: seconde worst, which was plus ou less the rating I expected.

7. Pocahontas: A surprisingly result – and I think if the sound check had been just about the songs without any relation to the movie, Pocahontas would have been slightly higher on the list, since I downgraded the songs quite often for the way they are used and not for themselves – but not that high, because a lot of songs are plus okay than anything else.

Fanpop says: Interestingly, “Pocahontas” ended up being in the middle – considering how much some people rave about the soundtrack I expected a much higher rating for it.

6. Snow White: Based on my gut feeling I would have put Snow White much lower, because of the tendency to filler songs, and yes, it profiteered from the fact that I downgraded it just once although there are two filler songs in the movie. But then, the other songs are just beautiful – if toi can appreciate the musique style, and I certainly can.

Fanpop says: I shouldn’t be surprised that it got voted the worst but really? Just because Snow White has a high chant voice and the songs have a different style? I expected this one between the last three ou four, but that result is harsh. Fiina at least had a reason I can get behind: “There are too many”. Sweety-94 on the other hand appreciates the musique style: “There is no single song that I dislike. In the other films there are a few songs that I don't like.”

5. Tangled: That’s plus ou less the placement I expected. While Raiponce doesn’t have the really outstanding songs everyone remembers (although I really dig the healing incarnation and l’amour “I see the light”), it neither has really bad songs. Which is one of the reasons I’m very frustrated that it was already voted out in the soundtrack countdown – there are so many other soundtracks which ended up on the very bottom plus often than not, not just in my lists, but also in the votings, while Raiponce normally flies in the middle.

Fanpop says: It’s somewhere in the middle, neither particular liked nor disliked.

4. Beauty and the Beast: Lower than I expected, but now thinking about it, while “Beauty and the Beast” has a lot of great songs, it has not one song I would immediately put on the haut, retour au début compared to the other soundtracks. I never thought I would ever say that, considering that Beauty and the Beast is my favori DP movie, and there was a time I heard the soundtrack around the clock, but I think a lot of the songs are slightly overrated (the score is another matter).

Fanpop says: Third best, tied with Aladdin. Surprisingly, the votes for the best were much closer to my final liste than the votes for the worst.

3. Cinderella: With “A dream is a wish your cœur, coeur makes”, the movie has one of those songs which simply stand out, plus an award winning song. I expected that “This is love” and the “Work song” would drag the movie down a little bit more, but it still narrowly beat “Beauty and the Beast”.

Fanpop says: Well, the voting for the best was close with one exception, and that’s Cinderella. It didn’t get any best votes and some worst votes.

2. Little Mermaid: Well, I expected this one at the haut, retour au début – “Part of your world” carries the whole movie, “Under the sea” is unforgettable and “Poor unfortunate souls” is the song which made villains songs popular. Even one ou two less impressive songs can’t drag this one down.

Fanpop says: seconde best and not one worst vote.

1. Mulan: I always knew that the songs in Mulan are underrated. I just didn’t realize that they are THAT underrated. This was a narrow win, but if I hadn’t taken “True to your heart” into consideration, the result would have been much, much clearer. And now looking at it, I realize how thought out the theme of the songs are. One song about what the society expects of women, one about what the society expects of men; one song about Mulan’s wishes, one song about what the male characters expect from a woman. Has anyone noticed how different all those expectations are? When Mulan gets prepared for the matchmaker, the women preparing her make sure that she has a “tiny waist”, the matchmaker complains that she is “too skinny, no good in bearing sons”. And the soldiers have different ideas too – one wants beauty, the suivant someone who admires him, the suivant a good cook. Like the movie as a whole, the songs don’t give clear answers, and they certainly don’t preach to the audience; they just provide different perspectives. Other films have plus songs, but I don’t think that Mulan needs more. And what’s there, is either well done ou impressive.

Fanpop says: Surprisingly, Mulan actually got voted as the best. “Mulan is winning?? Hmm it's not my least favourite but that would definitely be towards the bottom of my liste in regards to songs, I think they're generally weak compared to the soundtracks to most of the other movies.” (Mongoose09) “They're so catchy and fun :)” (callejahLUVSed)
