One of my all time favori authors is Jane Austen. When I read her novels I feel as if I have been transported to a different time and place; I feel the same way when I watch a Disney movie. They both take my mind off of my every jour life, and take me into a world with chivalry, and romance. I’ve always thought Belle and Elizabeth Bennet were a lot alike, and lately I’ve been lire a lot of Jane Austen, and watching some of the films that have been inspired par her work, and I thought about écriture this article. I’m going to match up each Disney Princess with a heroine from a Jane Austen novel that she reminds me of. I know some of toi here aren’t big fans of her, but I still hope toi read and enjoy!

Snow White & Kitty Bennet (Pride and Prejudice)
This one was probably the toughest one, because Snow White has such an uncommon personality…which is one of the reasons I adore her. She’s unrealistic. Both of them are sweet, cheerful and have a lot of energy.

Cendrillon & Harriet Smith (Emma)
These two are so much alike, in my opinion. Cendrillon and Harriet are both considered low class; Cinderella, because she is a servant, and Harriet, because of her birth rank. Both are sweet, lovely and completely endearing. Harriet is submissive to Emma, following her instructions on who to love, whereas Cendrillon is submissive to her Stepmother, and obeying her every command. I’m not saying there environments are the same, just their personalities.

Aurora & Jane Bennet (Pride and Prejudice)
Both are considered the “beauties” of the land in their stories. They are very sweet, a bit shy, and very respectful. Their l’amour life is a bit similar as well. Both become heartbroken when they find out they can’t be with the one they love, but in the end it all works out and they both lived happily ever after.

Ariel & Marianne Dashwood (Sense and Sensibility)
I adore both of these characters. They are both impulsive, and are quick to fall in love. Marianne tends to act before she thinks, much like Ariel; she lives in the moment. They are both very emotional. When they’re sad, they weep, when they’re happy they leap for joy, and when they’re mad they don’t try to hide it.

Belle & Elizabeth Bennet (Pride and Prejudice)
Two of my all time favori characters. I have longed thought that they were a lot alike. They l’amour to read, are smart and very witty and can be sarcastic at times. They both stand out in their communities for being “different”. But it’s their l’amour stories that are most similar, in my opinion. Upon meeting, they both can’t stand their men. Both think they are mean, cold and unfeeling. Over time though, as they get to know them, they fall in love. I know their circumstances are quite different…Mr. Darcy does not hold Elizabeth prisoner like the Beast does with Belle, but they still remind me of each other.

jasmin & Emma Woodhouse (Emma)
Both are wealthy, pampered and a bit spoiled. They were both raised par their Fathers but are independent. Emma vows she will never marry, and jasmin pushes every suitor away because she only wants to marry for love. They both make mistakes because of not having any “real world” experiences, but of course all ends well and they both get their “happily ever afters” with the man of their dreams.

Pocahontas and Catherine Morland (Northanger Abbey)
Pocahontas was a tough one to pair up. Northanger Abbey is the only Jane Austen book I have not read, and I have not seen the movie; I based my decision on what Wikipedia has to say about Catherine’s personality. She is described as tomboy, and is pleasing to the eye. She sees the best in people and says insightful things. She is also described as being humble, and honest. In the beginning of the movie, we see Pocahontas diving off of cliffs, running through the forest and canoeing down a waterfall; much like a tomboy. She decides to give John Smith a chance even though she was told not to. In the end, she makes a very hard, but smart decision par staying behind, to try and keep the peace, rather than sailing off with Smith.

Mulan and Jane Fairfax (Emma)
Although they don’t appear to be similar, they really are in my opinion. They’re both from completely different backgrounds and cultures. They both kept important secrets to themselves. Mulan joined the army while pretending to be a boy; a secret that could have cost her life. Jane, on the other hand, kept her engagement to Frank Churchill a secret, which could have ruined her reputation. Both aren’t afraid to speak up, and voice their opinions; Mulan quite often speaks her mind, and Jane constantly stands up for herself to Mrs. Elton.

Tiana and Fanny Price (Mansfield Park)
Tiana was another one that was difficult. Both come from very humble backgrounds. Both have to work; Tiana has two jobs, and Fanny helps take care and maintain Mansfield Park. Both are headstrong and not afraid to speak their mind.

Rapunzel and Margaret Dashwood (Sense and Sensibility)
These two are fun, sweet and full of energy. They are playful and l’amour to learn and experience new things. They also l’amour meeting new people. Margaret loves to read her atlas, and Rapunzel loves to read just about anything.
