adam left katherine because he figured out that katherine had been lying to him the whole time about dylan. She told him that it was all wayne's (ex-husband) fault when it really wasn't. It wasn't anybody's fault but katherine told adam that wayne was dead...which he wasn't (then).

Adam left Katherne because, if toi remember the tornado episode, that's when she found out that he had been sleeping with Sylvia.
