So, this is a sort of mashup song fic about the time when everyone was off this spot. Basically, everyone but Kate is on a raid, and she can't handle being alone. This is a blend of the songs "The Lonely" par Christina Perri, "Lost" and "Wide Awake" par Katy Perry, "Lonely Tears" and "Midnight Strikes" par LaFee, and "Haunted" par Kelly Clarkson.
Kate paced the floor. Had it really only been an hour?
The jour before, the Dark Lord had called a meeting. He’d talked about a special mission that he was sending everyone on the suivant day. Kate had perked up slightly in excitement. Then he’d looked at her.
“Except for you, Kate”, he’d said, his high, cold voice sounding merciless.
Terror had gripped Kate like an iron fist. Was he going to kill her? What had she done?
Voldemort had laughed. “No, Kate, toi are still useful”, he said. Kate shivered anyways.
“This mission involves…..killing. Which is why toi are going to be staying accueil and guarding the Manor”, he said. “You may go.”
Kate had soundlessly stood up and hurried away, but not before casting a glance at everyone else. Their faces were expressionless, but their eyes followed her out the door.
She blinked tears away. Not that she wanted to kill anyone, but she already had trouble believing that she was actually appreciated, wanted, needed, and it felt like everything was slipping away from her. She tried to tell herself that it was just one mission, but paranoia clenched her heart. And even plus than that, the thought of being alone….
Where are you? I need you. Don’t leave me here on my own…..
The suivant morning, everything had been a bustle. She’d gone to Lenzetta and asked about the mission.
“Sorry Kate, the Dark Lord a dit it was haut, retour au début secret”, she replied. “I have to go pack”, she hurried away.
She tried again. “Dmitry…how long are toi all going to be gone?”. If it was just a few days, maybe, just maybe, she could handle it….
“Sorry Kate….Dunno”, he too hurried off.
“Um…bye?”
They were really leaving. Her worst nightmares were coming true. She was all alone.
Out on my own again…
Kate spent the rest of the jour trying to hold back bad memories. It was difficult. Finally, she went to town and raided a muggle electronics store. She came accueil with a new TV, a radio, a stereo, and a variety of books, music, and some bizarre muggle disks that the store employees claimed would make moving pictures appear on the TV screen. She told the ancient House Elf to plug them in. She spent the rest of the jour watching muggle “movies” as a distraction. The first one she put in was some muggle movie called “Twilight”, that the clerk had assured her was very populaire with muggle girls. At least it worked as a distraction. Kate spent the first few minutes of the movie dumbfounded in horror and disgust, and spend the suivant heure yelling insults at the characters. Afterwards, she popped in the suivant one. Sure it was terrible, but she couldn’t help it. And it distracted her. And it was just too tempting to make fun of the bizarre sparkly guy.
Later she couldn’t help it. She tried to resist, but she felt herself slipping, sliding into the blackness, falling asleep.
Dark it's oh so dark. Fear comes creeping. The nightmares about to start….
The nightmares came, just like they always did, eventually, when she was alone. She was trapped in darkness, running through shadows, chasing an elusive light off in the distance. She heard distant screams, and eventually realized they were coming from her. She was gripped par terror. She couldn’t escape the darkness. She didn’t know why she was so scared, but she couldn’t find anyone, and the light was slowly vanishing….Kate woke up to the sound of her own screams.
2am; where do I begin
Kate shivered as she sat up. The clock on the radio a dit it was 2 am. She couldn’t shake the feeling that she was being watched. The third vampire movie was still playing on the TV. She ignored it, and turned on every single light in the house. She was turning on the cuisine lights when she thought she heard footsteps in an upstairs hallway. She ran back to the drawing room and pressed herself against the wall, wand drawn. She woke up in the same position several hours later.
Dancing slowly in an empty room. Can the lonely take the place of you?
Kate couldn’t shake the scared feeling. She was still alone. She stood up shakily. She turned on the radio, hoping some musique would make her feel less alone. She sang along loudly, pretending that everyone would be returning that evening. It was too much. She ran outside, slamming the door behind her. At least outside she didn’t feel so closed in and alone, trapped par the walls of the Manor….
She spent the rest of the jour wandering the gardens, chant cheerful songs loudly to herself. Too soon though, it began growing dark.
Too afraid to go inside…
Kate didn’t want to face the demons in the house again, but it was getting dark. She slowly walked back towards the house. But…what was that? A flash of movement off to the side. Sinister sounding giggles echoed around her. She began hyperventilating, and walked faster, breaking into a run. But at the door of the house….something dark… Kate didn’t wait to see what it was. She turned and ran back into the dark. Branches were whipping all around her. But that was impossible, she was still on the front walkway. The night seemed to grow darker. Kate’s cries died in her throat, but it didn’t matter, no one was there to save her anyways….
I woke up on the concrete…
Kate opened her eyes. It was still dark. She was flat on the concrete driveway of the Manor, her face pressed into the stone. She lifted her head. Her cheeks had gravel prints on them. She was surrounded par shining eyes. She blinked, and they vanished. But then they were back again, staring, boring into her… She got up, begging for them to disappear. She didn’t even know what she was saying, but mixed into the gibberish were pleas for everyone to come back. No one heard her.
So if I pray, am I just sending words into Outer Space?
The silent sound of loneliness. Wants to follow me to bed….
Kate didn’t know when she stopped talking, but the silence pressed into her as she raced back to her room in the mansion. She locked her door behind her and hid under the covers.
But the loneliness will stay with me. And hold me until I fall asleep….
Her cœur, coeur was pounding. She even missed the ordinary nighttime sounds that usually occurred in the Mansion.
Xander ou Dmitry sneaking down to the cuisine for a drink, Lenzetta practicing spells in her room suivant door, Paul playing rock musique ou chant bits of songs he was writing…..
I see you, I feel you, don’t leave my side…
Kate laid her head down, trying to conjure it. Nothing. She silence gripped her until she finally closed her eyes and fell asleep.
When she woke up again, she didn’t know what time it was, ou how many days had passed. She didn’t care. The nightmares were getting worse. Last night, she’d faced the bodies of all of her fellow Death Eaters, twisted and mutilated, with evil laughter coming from the shadows. She’d screamed and screamed, but she hadn’t been able to wake herself up.
She didn’t want to move. She didn’t care about anything. Her mind was almost blank. She just wanted to stay this way forever, never moving, just sinking into the silence. So blissful, no nightmares, no visions, nothing…..
Shadows linger, only to my eye…
Kate was forced to déplacer when the spiders came crawling. But they weren’t normal spiders. These ones had red eyes. And they were too big. Kate felt sluggish. They crawled over her, and she felt as though she were moving through water. Kate didn’t know if they were real ou not. Then the spiders crawled over her face and over her eyes and everything went black to the sounds of faraway voices and footsteps….
Kate opened her eyes this time. The spiders were gone. There was no trace that they’d ever been there. She heard musique from downstairs. The radio. Then she knew something was in her room. Something dark, pulsating. She didn’t stop to look, she just ran. Outside, rain beat the windows, but she didn’t stop. She was stumbling, her legs didn’t seem to be working correctly. She didn’t know how she made it down the stairs. It was like running through sand, but somehow, she ran out the door. She collapsed to her knees on the wet driveway. The downpour continued all around her.
Her lonely tears are falling in the rain. Her lonely tears, and they won't see her pain….
plus sounds from the house. Kate didn’t turn. Her eyes burned, and water trickled down her face in rivets. Then the tears fell. She could hardly think straight, and the world spun around her as the tears mixed with raindrops on her face.
Water grew in puddles around her. The ground seemed to pitch forward. Kate toppled forward, her face splashing into another puddle, her arms limp beside her. Her head spun. Spiders, images of her friends, dead, then thorns, shadows, darkness.
“Go away!”, Kate moaned, trying to cover her eyes, but her arms refused to move, soaking wet and pale in the water beside her.
Then the water seemed to move. Worms. Fat, gray worms were crawling out of the puddles, oozing over Kate’s wrists, and finally, she jerked up to her feet. The worms were gone. She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts. Eventually, the cold shocked her back to her senses.
She walked towards the Manor again, legs shaking. She told herself she was being foolish. “Nothing’s wrong”, she told herself. “There is nothing here, ou in the Manor. Everything is fine.”
…..in a golden cage. Keep on smiling just keep on smiling. The montrer goes on…
Kate forced herself to try and act normally. “Now go make yourself some dinner, Kate”, she told herself. Oddly enough, she didn’t feel hungry, which was odd, considering it had been….wait, how long had it been since everyone had left?
She washed her hands in the sink, half expecting something other than water to come sliding out of the faucet. She checked the drain too, just in case.
She went to a cupboard and opened it, staring blankly at the contents. What was she doing here? What was everything for? She tried to get a grip on herself. She reached in and pulled out a frying pan. She stared at it. Her eyes looked over the handle, the shiny black surface. It looked nice in her hand. But what was it doing there again? She dropped it to the floor, barely hearing the resulting thud.
She then opened the refrigerator. Her limbs didn’t feel like her own anymore.
There was something green on the haut, retour au début shelf. Something in a bottle on the shelves in the door. There were drawers, too. Maybe something was in one of them? Kate couldn’t remember what she was doing. Why was she there anyways? The green stuff on the haut, retour au début shelf seemed to wriggle, and Kate slammed the refrigerator door on it.
“Okay, dîner doesn’t matter”, she told herself. She walked on lead feet back to the drawing room. The TV was still on. She numbly popped in another film, and turned the volume up high. She stared at it, her eyes following the moving pictures, but her mind was still a blank. There were two people in it…a man and a woman. Something was happening…but what? Kate didn’t care. Suddenly, the picture changed, the cheery couple morphing into long, scaly creatures with fangs, that seemed to slide out of the screen….
I'm the shell of a girl that I used to know well….
Kate couldn’t take it any longer. She ran again. She found herself par Lucius Malfoy’s liquor cabinet. She opened the door and collapsed inside, covering her face. Nothing would find her here. She hoped.
…when the emptiness comes…
And nothing did. She heard occasional footsteps outside, but she kept her eyes closed, and plugged her ears whenever she heard anything.
Let me be numb, I’m starting to fall….
It worked. Eventually the sounds and dreams stopped. Now everything was blank. And hazy. It was like she was stuck in a dreamlike fog. Nothing moved. Nothing changed. And Kate stayed there, terrified of what she’d find if she opened the door, and without the will to open it anyways.
Eventually, after a long period of silence, Kate heard sounds again. It sounded like the other Death Eaters. Kate wasn’t fooled. They’d all gone and left her, hadn’t they? Days and days…or was it days? Maybe months, weeks, years…..Kate had no idea how long she’d been in the cabinet. But that was okay. Nothing could find her here. Not the nightmares, the visions, the memories.
Kate forced herself to try and concentrate. It wasn’t easy. Her head felt empty. She couldn’t think of anything. She just listened. She heard laughter. It sounded like Lenzetta, Xander, and Dmitry. But it couldn’t be them. It must be the nightmares, trying to tempt her into opening the door….
Then the footsteps came closer, until they were right outside the cabinet.
The door opened.
Silence.
Kate’s eyes opened a crack, for the first time in who knew how long. She was staring at a very familiar pair of boots. But it couldn’t be….everyone was gone.
She looked up. Right into the face of Xander Kriechen. Impossible. Her eyes blankly stared at him It couldn’t be real, it just couldn’t…..or was it?
Kate paced the floor. Had it really only been an hour?
