showrunner has some thoughts about iconic comic writer Frank Miller’s recent comments. Miller was asked about Marvel’s drama adding Elektra (played by Elodie Yung, first photo above), a character Miller created in 1981. The artist said he’s never watched the Netflix series and added, “They can do whatever they want, that is not her.”
writer-producer Doug Petrie (who runs the series along with Marco Ramirez) about the remark. “God bless him, it’s his prerogative,” Petrie replied. “I’m a huge fan of what he did, so the [criticism] doesn’t go both ways. I wouldn’t say, ‘What does Frank Miller know?’ I’m so inspired by him and what he achieved and I’m trying to take it further and enrich her. She’s an empowered woman with her own agency, she’s nobody’s victim.”
team shouldn’t take Miller’s comment too personally. Miller previously said he doesn’t watch
adaptations of his characters, and even refused to watch Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, having told
: “When people come out with movies about characters I’ve worked on, I always hate them. I have my own ideas about what the characters are like. I mean, I can’t watch a Batman movie. I’ve seen pieces of them, but I generally think, ‘No, that’s not him.’ And I walk out of the theater before it’s over.”

Previously in our first-look examination of season 2, Petrie had more to say about Elektra, who is hero Matt Murdoch’s (Charlie Cox) former college girlfriend. “Matt’s a deeply moral complicated guy and she’s just the best bad girlfriend you can possibly have,” Petrie said. “She does everything wrong and attractive, she’s his id, the wild side. Matt is always taming his wild side. Elektra just lets it out. He’s both repulsed and deeply drawn to that.”
