Thought I'd share. Nothing really negative. JMO. Plus, had to vent a bit. Can't wait for TVD Season 3. Rereading livres again. Here it is:
I know & am very aware that others in the past have stated their opinions about Damon about those he loves in the books, but I just wanted to state my perspective.
I’ve read The Vampire Diaries Original Trilogy & Return Trilogy many times. I find the series to be very compelling (though I could’ve done fine without some of the graphics of the possessed children in the R.T.). I absolutely l’amour the character of Damon, & how blunt, complicated, & nice-paced he is. I haven’t read the complexity of a character in a book quite like him before, so it’s refreshing to see his depths.
What I l’amour most about Damon is the levels of l’amour & loyalty he has. He may say he hates Stefan, but it’s obviously just a defense mechanism. He loves VERY deeply, & is tough-shelled when it comes to montrer vulnerability, & his weakness of l’amour to anyone, even to those he does love.
Now, to one of my favori parts: His l’amour for Elena. Damon went from just being fascinated/drawn to/curious about Elena due to her resemblance to Katherine, to admiring her for her stubborn, fiery streak, & being unmoving when it comes to those she loves. It built over the whole course of the two trilogies. Elena’s l’amour for him built up from attraction & *hate*, to undeniable passion & love. *Sighs admirably*. Just got to l’amour that, as cheesy as it sounds. I do l’amour Delena on the show, & their buildup, but still a dedicated DE fan in the livres first, due to their flaring passion, & purely epic, emotional scenes together until he *died* in Midnight. I never saw any l’amour being transferred at all from Katherine to Elena for Damon, when he was always thinking of Elena, & barely showed too much emotion about Kat in the livres (though I will say he was probably furious about Katherine’s death because he cared for her enough, & it looked to be that he his ego was hit when he found out that Katherine wanted Stefan too, whom he didn’t like as an opponent, seeing him as just a boy & that’s it).
Now, onto something else. I have read through Damon’s character growth as well. He has grown to care at least enough to save Meredith & Matt, but still tease them. This is a big step, since Damon is portrayed as not being so respective when it comes to humans. He doesn’t particularly like them, but respects them very much.
Now, this brings me to Damon’s feelings for Bonnie: I do think that Damon cares for Bonnie/has a slight romantic tinge/loves her, but isn’t IN l’amour with her. She is stated to be a romantic possibility, according to LJ Smith. But, as of Midnight, Damon, Stefan, Bonnie & Elena, etc. have all commenté on/acknowledged Damon’s feelings for Bonnie as truly caring. He cares for her plus than Matt & Meredith, but not plus than Elena.
He acted impulsively to die for her because she is one of the few people that he truly cares about. He would’ve done the same thing for Stefan ou Elena too. He’s put the pain on himself so Elena wouldn’t suffer, & has made it known that he’d die for Elena if the opportunity presented itself.
Damon a dit when he died that he only loved Elena. He stated via mind & soul that he truly loved her & ONLY her in the romantic sense. It’s always been Elena, & her knowing of his l’amour *made his life worth something* (D himself).
Nowhere have I read that Damon is in l’amour with anyone but Elena. He’s always completely cared for Bonnie, enough to have Elena tell her that he was truly sorry for the things that happened to her. Now just because he died for her doesn’t mean he’s automatically in l’amour with her. It’s just hard for me to believe that Damon wouldn’t have at least aknowledged that he *loved* Bonnie on his deathbed, but he didn’t. I’m not trying to be rude ou start a shipper war, but it is pure speculation that he hadn’t realized it yet/was in denial about it/*blinded par his obsession with Elena*. No indication sorry.
Now moving on again. I just have to say that I had to cover that part, because I don’t get how some could ignore what’s already written in the livres themselves.
Though I don’t agree with the way Elena acts sometimes in the books, I admire her fierce love, & pull towards Damon. It’s so powerful, forbidden, & just passionate.
In the books, I am a Damon fan first. <3 him in anything he does, especially his reawakening humanity on the montrer & in the books. He may act mopey & emotional at times, but it’s a part of his growth as a character.
I’ve a dit it before: I personally won’t be getting any of the Hunter’s Trilogy, since it isn’t going to be the original author’s vision. Even if she doesn’t legally have certain rights, she captures the essence/magic of all the characters in TVD. Now that a ghostwriter is taking over, I just don’t see it being the same characters, just faux character development, sugar coating Elena’s feelings for Damon just so she can end up with Stefan (too cheesy & default). Not interesting to know the tiring endgame. I don’t know about Damon/Bonnie, but if they end up together, it won’t be the original caring scenes they’ve had, since LJ created that too, & made it the reason why there are fans of not just them, but Stelena & Delena too (NOTE: Stelena gives me a headache in the books). Oh well. Can’t do anything about it I guess. It stinks that a dynamic series like this has to go down that road.
Good luck to everyone who continues to read the series though. If I see anything of summaries montrer somehow a good plot, & DE’s l’amour not just being written off as *physical attaction*, then maybe I’ll look it up. Until then, have fun.
