livres à lire Survey: Who is the quintessential American author?

This is for a project I'm doing, and I'm trying to ask as many people as possible (and so I thought of asking on Fanpop. Again, the question I'm asking is:

Whom do you think of as the quintessential American author? (choose five authors)

Thanks!

Mark Twain it is - but you want 5. hmmmm

I'm mostly into Fantasy/Sci-fi, and generally my fave authors are British - so I'm going to have to go with 5 off the "Important" American Authors list (4th Edition):

Mark Twain
Isaac Asimov
Edgar Allan Poe
Ambrose Bierce
Kurt Vonnegut
