When people to talk to me about Anime, i never fail to mention my faverout shows- but whenever Avatar the last airbender crops up, people instantly jump on the fact that its apperently not a 'real anime' and im sick of it! What rite do they have to sneer at me for my taste in anime?! Just because Avatar is a low budjet creation, heavily influenced par american culture and obviously made for kids TV, it doesnt make it any less of a good show, right? I mean really, a montrer doesnt have to be full of spectacular art work and totally unique ideas to be enjoyable! I dont know about toi guys, but presonaly i think that all the above mentioned makes it a genarelly plus easy-going and light hearted montrer thats great to watch when your in need of a little no-brainer, fun TV!
Please tell me what toi think!!!

fanfly The reason that technically Avatar: the Last Airbender isn't an anime is because it was conceived and produced by Americans. All other animes are created by the Japanese. Or at least I can't think of any that weren't. I would call it American anime though, because it's influenced by the Japanese style and like many animes it deals with more adult concepts than most American cartoons. But IMO it's a valid debate on whether or not to call it an anime because although it uses elements of anime, it's still an American-produced cartoon.

Wholey_me oh, and by the way, there are LOADS of anime produced by and for the american market!!!

fanfly Can you tell me which ones are [i]produced[/i] by Americans? Not just distributed, but actually produced. Because I think that's the key to the traditional definition of anime. And although I can think of some that have been popular in the U.S. and targeted towards Americans, I can't think of any that were actually produced by Americans.

I think the art is Avatar is spectacular (or at least the characters are animated better than most animes which take the most shortcuts to animate the smallest amount possible) The ideas on the show, hmm... pretty unique. Especially how they take stuff right out of ancient cultures. Anime? >Not Japanese >Art style is anime >Avatar Extras says it is based on the style of Anime (which it describes as an attempt to balance action and emotion with comedy)

luliuly I really love anime, and obviously Avatar. I think is in the middle between anime and "not anime", cuz it IS based and influenced by anime. And at the same time its not an anime cuz the definition of anime is the manga introduced to the animation.
