Everyone in my family was getting slightly annoyed at my constant chatter about how excited I was for the suivant book to come out in the series. My mom asked my dad, "Do obsessions come from your side of the family ou mine?"
I had waited two whole years for this, and there was no doubt it would be the best in the series. And I was hoping for there to finally be a little romance between Artemis and Holly. Hopefully Minerva would be brought back into the picture, also. <SPOILERS AHEAD!>
As I sat in the corner of the Barnes and Noble, lire it, my excitement slowly was fading. The story couldn't hold my interest for too long, as it was constantly switching from the characters points of view. Really, I only care about the main characters' adventures. However, it was nice to see a change in the villain, though I don't really care if its Opal ou not.
And... for those who are worked up about seeing houx and Arty well... that'll have to wait. There isn't really much tension between them - in fact, houx doesn't even get embarrassed ou have any sort of exciting reaction except for once when she blushed. Eoin was really setting it up, though - houx mentioned that they would talk about the 'confessions of love' later (this being a dit near the end of the book), which, wasn't as exciting as I thought. Basically, it was his alter ego that a dit everything, and he even had them call him something else which dampened the effect somewhat. But it all had to come from somewhere! <3 <MAJOR SPOILER> Also, the whole book was sort of exploring the idea of what would happen if a human and a fairy married through the villain's perspective and his relationship with his human wife. Could this possibly be preparing us for marriage between houx and Artemis? I hope so.
Basically, the first half is some mush that tried to keep together. Orion (Artemis' alter ego) gave some humor and entertainment, but it would've been a lot plus interesting if there were better reactions to what he said. C'mon! Saying houx looks dramatic par the firelight! And that she shared a moment of passion with Artemis! Most commentaires like these were met with houx ignoring them ou her stamping slush out of her boots!
The seconde half of the book definitely makes my rating a bit higher, just because its plus of the style I'm used to, and the whole group is together. There is plus humor, and action, and, well... good plot. The ending, as toi should be used to par now, is pretty terrible, and barely sets the suivant book up. Though be sure to see the Atlantis Complex in the suivant one.
What we hoped for, and how much of it toi shouldn't expect see.
ROMANCE: There is nothing in this book that toi can call romance.Just awkward humor.
HUMOR: Other than it being awkward with Orion, there were some global, ensemble funny moments, especially the phone call with Artemis and his... Mum. C'mon? Artemis in jeans?? That will be funny.
ACTION: Not as much as the other books, but some. I want plus angry squids and interesting high-tech weapons, if toi ask me.
COMPETITION: I want some of it! Give me Artemis, Trouble, Minerva, and houx in one dark room for a jour and I'll be happy.
LITTLE TODDLERS: Except Juliet and Butler, no family was in it physically, only over the phone and when they were mentioned.
Overall, if you're a fan, I'm not sure why toi wouldn't read it. Just set your hopes really low so that you'll think its really, really good when toi do. I'd say... three stars. Can't wait for the suivant one, but it'll be two years...
