I am quite a big fan of the main eight classic films that étoile, star Disney Princesses, this consists of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Cendrillon (1950), Sleeping Beauty (1959), The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladin (1992), Pocahontas (1995) and arguably Mulan (1998).

But recently I wanted to see what other companies Princess Leading Ladies had to offer and I found quite a lot! Although in this article I am looking specifically at a few. So in this article I am looking at: Anastasia (1997), Thumbelina (1994), Quest for Camelot (1998), The cygne Princess (1994), Happily Ever After (1993), FernGully: The Last Rainforest (1992) and The Princess and the Goblin (1992). All of these films are from various different studios and use various different distribution chains.

Anastasia (the 1997 Animated feature) is quite a famous film in its own right, I am sure that the majority of Disney Princess fans are also completely aware of Anastasia's existence. She is often even mistaken for being a Disney Princess despite the fact she is not Disney, but in fact from 20th Century fox. It is a very good movie, the best made, famous and successful movie out of those mentioned in this article. I really like the story of Anya trying to find out who she really is and then finding out that she is in fact a princess, generally a princess movie worth watching with a very good soundtrack for a non-disney standard, the one thing I disliked about this film is the characters movements, they seem really exaggerated and it sort of puts me off a bit. After watching this movie recently I decided to look into the true story behind it and I must warn you, its pretty depressing even worse than finding out the true story of one of my favourite princesses, Pocahontas.

Another princess movie now owned par 20th Century renard is Thumbelina, one of the most cutest films of all time. In the original story Thumbelina doesn't become a princess but in this adaption she does. I have to admit that although Thumbelina herself is animated pretty well, the rest of the characters and a few of the settings animation are of a poor quirky standard, with some even quirkier songs. Some of the people Thumbelina encounters are of a very strange nature, such as the toad family and some beetle man of some kind. Thumbelina is voiced par Jodi Benson, the same lady who voiced Ariel from Disney's The Little Mermaid and her voice fits both princesses perfectly including her singing. The movie made me laugh quite a few times, it felt almost like Thumbelina was Lost in some other world animated completely differently to how she is but strangely enough, it actually worked pretty well anyway! Another aspect I liked was Thumbelina's l’amour interest, the fairy Prince Cornelius, who is pretty cute.

Kayley from Quest for Camelot is not a princess, however I thought to include the film anyway, she is like the Mulan of the non-disney princesses. Her story focuses on her quest to become a knight as well as save her mother and the kingdom. The animation is adequate, the soundtrack is of a good standard and the characters are pretty damn lovable, especially the l’amour interest, Garret. Kayley's chant voice was provided par Andrea Corr, lead singer of Irish pop group The Corrs. The movie was not at all successful being over shadowed par Disney's Mulan and was slated par critics calling it a bland Disney rip-off feature, but don't let that put toi off! I actually enjoyed this movie, admittingly no where near as much as Mulan, but it is still quite a cute movie, with a spunky heroine, adequate comic relief and taught quite a few nice messages, with a bit of cheesiness thrown in for good measure.

Quite a famous animated princess movie is The cygne Princess featuring Princess Odette as the heroine of the story. I'm not a fan of Prince Derek, for some unexplainable reason but I do quite like the character of Odette and the fact that the two of them had to spend several summers together throughout their childhood portrayed in the movie with the absolutely adorable song "This Is My Idea", the movie also includes an awesome l’amour song for a non-disney standard with "Far Longer Than Forever". The animation is adequate, not at all breathtaking in any way, and the character designs are pretty standard and not very diverse. The story over all is very nice, a typical fairy tale sense with a slight modern edge and a big helping of romance.

An unofficial sequel was created for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, named Happily Ever After obviously featuring Snow White as the princess leading lady, who’s animation and design differs greatly to that of the princess featured in Disney's take on the original story. I like how this movie was basically a complete opposite of the original story, with Snow White saving her Prince, with the help of the seven Dwarfelles (the seven Dwarfs cousins). But realistically the animation was awful, the characters where badly put together and it came across as a very messy movie over all. However, it is pretty fun to watch anyway, its colourful, light hearted and very cute especially with one of the seven Dwarfelles named Thunderella. Some parts of the movie made me laugh, even though I don't think these parts where intended to be comical.

FernGully: The Last Rainforest is arguably not a princess movie but it is mentioned that par the end of the movie Crysta is leader of FernGully. The movie tells the story of fairy girl Crysta and her efforts in protecting the lands of FernGully. I enjoyed watching this movie, a fairy tale set in modern day, giving a sense that fairy tales did not just accor hundreds of years il y a but they are still according to this day. With the cute heroine of Crysta, who has a rather snazzy hair-do and a cute l’amour interest of Zak, its generally a movie worth watching, with an eco-friendly message (even though it is arguably inaccurate) and with a simplified message of humanity as well as having great animation, which is a rarity compared to the other films mentioned in this article.

The Princess and the Goblin is probably the worst animated, worst put together, worst voice casted movie on this list. Yet it was one that I enjoyed the most! It is one of the examples of films that are so bad that they are good. I was debating whether ou not I should put this movie in this review but…why they heck not? Featuring Princess Irene on a magical adventure, trying to avoid being wed to the Goblin Prince, with the help of the young l’amour interest in the story. I recommend watching this movie just for the comedy factor as well as the fact it is a little bit nice anyway.

In conclusion I enjoyed watching all seven of these princess orientated movies, although some to greater ou lesser extent and I recomend that toi give any of these films that toi havn't yet seen a go.

I recently realised that I have been missing out on many interesting animated movies. I am a true Disney fan at cœur, coeur and no films will ever be able to give me the same feelings that Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Lady and the Tramp, Hercules, The Little Mermaid and many plus can, but I have realised that there are many other good animated films out there that are not in relation to Disney at all.

In this article I am looking a DreamWorks traditionally animated movies, which only consists of five films: The Prince of Egypt (1998), The Road to El Dorado (2000), Joseph: King of Dreams...

Before I start with the list, some explanations: Those are not necessarily my favori movies. Those are films I believe to be special in one way ou another, films which I think offer something different from the standard animated movie. And while I numbered the list, most of the placements are pretty much exchangeable – to make it on the list, it had to be a full-length movie (regardless of theatrical release, though don’t expect any TV specials), it had to be a stand-alone (not a sequel ou TV-show based) and it had to offer something special, preferably in terms of animation (though...
