I l’amour it both ways, but I would probably pick 'covering' too...it reminded me of violet from The Incredibles. 'Hiding' behind one's hair can be an indication of shyness and lack of self-confidence in animated characters, but--as with Jessica Rabbit ou Peg from Lady and the Tramp--it can also suggest just the opposite, depending on the character and situation. ;)
