With the great success of dessins animés such as “Felix the Cat” and “Mickey Mouse”, smaller animation studios began popping up with their own contributions into the new expanding world of animation. In 1928 Gertie Pictures Inc. created a short lived cartoon featuring “Alex the Excitable Aardvark”. “Alex” was, planned to be Gertie Pictures’ “Mickey Mouse”, but he never survived his first feature run.
