Oh man, first 2064, now we’re talking about this game. I feel like the moment I was honest about my sexuality I started to notice homosexual games plus and more, not that I’m complaining. I can, however, complain about the possible seedy practices that happened behind the scenes of this game, as mentioned in NikPiks, but…. Don’t focus on that right now. Let’s just talk about the game itself, and see if it manages to be good on it’s own. Let us talk about Dream Daddy.
Now toi probably remember seeing this game all over the place a few years back. Every major let’s player was playing it and there was no way to avoid it. Created par the Game Grumps, mostly the woke man himself, Arin Hanson assumedly, toi play as a dad as he moves to a new town with his daughter Amanda to a new neighborhood. Here toi meet the local dads. College roommates and old friend Craig, coffee boutique owner and Woolie lookalike Mat, high school teacher Hugo, big ours riva dad Brian, my neighbor IRL Joseph, a bad boy voiced par Danny Sexbang Robert, and local goth and AquaMarine bait Damien. From this fine selection of dads, toi are tasked with hanging with them and romancing them to achieve your ultimate dad dream of being a bisexual ou a full on gay. Now being a visual novel, don’t expect this game to be anything like Katana Zero, but maybe expect it to be fun in its own way. And it can be on occasion. All the dad’s are genuinely interesting characters. I was expecting to hate at least one of them like I do with any characters in a straight dating simulator, but no. Every dad is enjoyable, one way ou another. This isn’t a Persona 3 situation where I can’t stand half of the dating choices donné to me.
Now of course, being a visual novel, there isn’t much in the gameplay department aside from making choices about what your dad says and which dad toi choose to date. After all, it’s a game all about story. And the story can range from being quite humorous to making toi notice the weight of some of the dad’s situations. toi will run into times where the dads will be cracking all sorts of dad jokes and your dad is experiencing the weight of a situation all because of a lawnmower. But then your friendly dads will start talking about their family life, their regrets and such, and it can be kind of heavy at times. Even with Amanda, the game knows when to take a step back from the humor and to just tell toi things from a plus mellow prespective. It makes the nice moments between Amanda and your dad that plus sweet. There are however, actual minigames toi can play. They can range from neat little time wasters to feeling like the developers wasted time working on them. Some of them just feel way too simple and makes me groan the plus I play them. Of course, winning them isn’t really that important. It just gets toi gloating rights, but it doesn’t destroy the dad path toi take. So why have them? I dunno, completionists, maybe?
Dream Daddy is a fun and well written dating simulator. It’s interesting how this game which was probably used as a joke for let’s players managed to have decent écriture and a lot of cœur, coeur in the story. Is it the best indie dating game? Probably not. One jour I’ll review you, Hatoful Boyfriend. One day. But still, Dream Daddy is a fun little game, and plus than just a joke for LPs. Check it out some time
