The Vampire Diaries Burning Question: Which Couple Is Breaking Up? 

Vampire Diaries showrunner Julie Plec, “There will be a hook-up, a break-up, and a make-up. Not necessarily by the same couple.” And this is all coming at us when Season 6 returns on January 22nd. Our big question, on a show where there are currently so few couple currently together, which couple will be doing the breaking up? We speculate below!

Jo and Alaric. These two are the most healthy couple on TVD right now. They communicate. They trust one another. And they agree not to kill family members, even when it’s probably the wise thing to do. But how long can that possibly last on this show? With things getting tense within the Gemini Coven, will this couple fall apart? Maybe. We’re especially intrigued to see how Kai’s kidnapping of Elena affects Jo and Alaric’s relationship. Elena is basically Alaric’s family. Though Ric may have been against Jo going up against Kai before, it will be interesting to see what he thinks once he realizes Elena’s life is on the line. There’s also The Damon Factor to consider. Could Damon’s desire to do whatever it takes to save his loved ones come between Jo and Alaric again?

Liv and Tyler. Another couple in top contention for the break up is Liv and Tyler. Though we’re digging seeing these two together, we don’t have a ton of faith in the stability of their relationship. Sure, Liv’s decision to kill a dying man to keep Tyler from re-triggering his werewolf curse says a lot about how much she like the former werewolf dude, but she also has many other commitments. Recent decisions, many of them made while taking Tyler’s opinion into account, have created a rift of sorts between Liv and Luke, and we have much more faith in the strength of the siblings relationship between twins Liv and Luke then we do between the burgeoning romance between Tyler and Liv.

Of course, this could all be a moot point if Luke and Liv are the ones who undergo the merging, which we think might be the case. Who knows which Parker twin will survive, but either way, Liv and Tyler’s relationship would never be the same. Could this be the catalyst for a possible breakup for this couple?

Bonnie and Jeremy. OK, so these two aren’t together together given that Jer thought Bonnie was dead until very recently, and they’re trapped on different metaphysical planes. But they kind of still are together? Or, at least they were when Bonnie seemingly died, which certainly hints at there still being something unresolved between these two. However, the spoilers that Bonnie will come back a changed woman following her time in Kai’s prison world have us thinking it won’t be smooth sailing for Bonnie and Jeremy’s relationship. Will Bon Bon return only to break up with her former love? We think it’s likely.
