I'm thinking that this was filmed before Shadow Souls(the most recent) came out. So yes, at the time there were 2 plus livres to be released, but since that time one has been released, so there is just one plus to come.

As listed on the official TVD site, the livres are The Awakening, The Struggle, The Fury, Dark Reunion, The Return: Nightfall, THe Return: Shadow Souls have already been released there is to be only ONE plus BOOK(!) The Return: Midnight. Just like what Sunbathe said, it's a triology, meaning only THREE books. Midnight is the last one.
