Once Upon A Time Article: It Still Doesn't Excuse Her

After today's episode we were able to learn the roots of Regina's anger. I really felt for her--she had a terribly evil mother who murdered her true l’amour and forced her to marry a man who was revealed in past episodes to not l’amour her and keep her locked away in the castle.

But still, it doesn't excuse anything Regina has done. Here are some of the things I can list, just off the haut, retour au début of my head:
-Ripped out the Huntsman's heart; Killed Graham
-Seperated Hansel and Grettel from their father, after breaking her promise to help them find him.
-Seperating the Mad Hatter from his daughter
-Trapping everyone in Storybrooke
-Killing her father
-Trying to kill Snow
-Framing Mary Margaret for murder
-Tricking the genie into killing the king (though the king kinda deserved it for being a controlling dick, though still... it's evil >>)

There's plenty plus that I can't remember. Even after watching that episode and feeling a lot of pain for The Queen, I still think she went excessive in her revenge and hurt too many people who never did anything to her. So I still think Regina is an evil bitch. A relatable one, but still completely psycho and evil.

Princess-Yvonne yep. agreed. I think she got it from her mother. like I've said: she should be in a hospital, getting help. not run a round killing and bringing misfortune to everyone (including herself).

robinsparkles97 don't forget: telling rumple belle was dead just to hurt him. however, it seemed like gina already had that evil...trait, i guess...from her mom. and that was only brought out when she killed her lover.

blue-eyes If you are saying Regina is "mentally ill" which she might be slightly. What was done to her by her mother is most likely the reason for it. Events in a persons life can really take a toll on someone's mental stability.

Camronjo This episode doesn't excuse what she has done, but it helps people understand where she is coming from. I guess I look at the episode as warning. It shows how good people can, even if it is understandable at the start, ruin thier own life because anger and revenge have taken over in their hearts. It has reminded me how powerful (and necessary) forgiveness can be.

zanhar1 Maybe it can't be excused but she has a legit reason for hating Snow. Not to mention as Cassie said, there's probably more to be revealed. And if she was mentally ill why didn't anyone try to help her? Why didn't anyone try to comfort her after her love died? And then there's Snow, if Gina's actions can't be justified Snow's can't either. She may have been a little girl, but Gina made it very clear that what she witnessed was a searct and she was pretty nice to Snow about the whole thing. Even little girls know you should keep seacrets. And little girls, they probably know better then anyone, you shouldn't interfere with true love. Snow, even when being questioned by Gina's mom, could've lied and said she knew nothing.

Princess-Yvonne Ok...understand everything about Regina's pain. But you can't say "she has a legit reason for hating Snow"! She should be angry with her mother. That little girl was just so innocent and pure at heart she couldn't possibly believe that A MOTHER can hurt her child. Snow wanted for Regina not to lose her mother. Like she has lost hers... She trusted that evil woman because she is too good to even conceive evil.

zanhar1 I say she should be mad at both; p***ed at her mom and angry at Snow. Like I said Snow should've known not to interfere with love and to share such an important seacret. She was too innocent and oblivious. While she was trying to help Regina had made it clear that she did not want her mom to know. That's the only thing I can understand about what Snow did; she thought she was helping. But you don't share a seacret especially one that isn't even yours, I knew that as a little girl!

Princess-Yvonne I would totally agree if Regina got mad with Snow. It's understandable to be mad about it. But I can't understand her ETERNAL, EVERLASTING, POISONOUS HATE.

zanhar1 I can; I'd be pretty mad if someone's inability to keep a seacret killed a my lover. But that's just me personally.

zanhar1 I may not go as far as trying to get revenge but I can certainly understand why one would.

Princess-Yvonne That's the difference with Snow: she was raised in an ivory tower. she thought that all mothers should love their children. the way it is natural and normal. She thought that Cora seeing her daughter's love would agree to her happiness. out of this messy story I feel bad for Regina. BUT I feel bad for Snow too...She lost her innocence. And signed in for a life of misery from the step mother she loved.

zanhar1 That is true, like I said I understand she was just trying to help. But surely she had to pick up on something. She had to have some form of a clue that something was wrong. I feel bad for the two of them as well, the whole thing was one giant set up by Gina's mother. I place [i]full[/i] blame on her, for a raising Gina wrong and for setting the whole thing up.

Epicurean @zanhar1 I'd be furious as well if someone's inability to keep a secret resulted in the death of my loved one. But it's completely different when it's a 7 year old telling the secret. I said this before and I'll say it again; Children cannot comprehend the consequences of their actions. Why do you think most children aren't prosecuted for murder? Not to mention, Cora completely manipulated Snow. I understand how you can sympathize with and support Regina (even if I don't agree). She has a very relatable anguish. But I just cannot comprehend how you repeatedly defend her torment of Snow.

zanhar1 Little children particarlly elementary schoolers know that it's bad to share seacrets. They also know that they should listen to adults to a certain extent. And murder and sharing a seacret are two different things. Parents punish their children for small things like sharing seacrets. No Snow shouldn't be killed for what she did but her actions lead to a death she should've at least received a time out! I'm not particularly aiming to defend the tormenting of Snow, more so trying to point out that Regina has legit motives behide her actions and rage. In a sense Snow was tormenting Gina without realizing it. I do remember mentioning on the wall and on the 'are you pissed off at lil snow' question that I felt bad for Snow and that I think Cora should be the one suffering. However I do see why Gina does torment her, if she was still just naive little girl I'd probably be more against it, but she is a grown woman and cam understand right from wrong, we still don't have the full story; what Regina ment by 'you always did see yourself that way (innocent)' for all we know she could've in her adulthood chosen not to aknowlage her mistake.

Epicurean Snow has received PLENTY of a "time out" already. BEYOND a time out. And we've seen when Snow was an adult that she felt PLENTY of remorse/guilt, and accepted what she did and knew it was wrong. I remember a particular converation she had with Charming. He was like, "Why does the Queen want you dead?" And she said "She thinks I ruined her happines." He asked "Did you?" And she replied "Yes." Even when the Huntsman went to kill her she wrote that letter to the Queen telling her she understood she had to die to appease her, and hoped it made her happy. I don't think Snow sees herself as innocent like the Regina said. Mary Margaret does, but that's only because she lost her memory of the whole event, thanks to Regina. I just think, after a while Snow White understood enough was enough, and she couldn't allow the Queen to torment her forever. She accepted it for a long time, but Regina's torturing of Snow overstayed it's welcome. You can only stay sorry for so long before you realize you deserve a little happiness.

zanhar1 Maybe she had taken blame and responsibility. And of course Regina's torment lingeres a bit too long and maybe Snow did appoligized. But appologies can't bring back the dead, Regina's torment will linger until her suffering subsides. And loading someone you love is scarring.

Epicurean Doesn't Regina's situation remind you a bit of Emma and Graham's? Cora crushed Daniel's heart and he died in Regina's arms.... same with how Regina crushed Graham's heart and he died in Emma's arms. Yet I think if Emma knew the truth, she'd probably try to find a way to get justice, not revenge. Regina could learn a thing or two from her. Also, someone said this before and I really agree with them: Cora would have found out eventually and killed Daniel anyways. Snow's confession just made it happen a little sooner. But as long as Cora was around, Regina and Daniel could never be together.

zanhar1 It does, and I'm pretty sure that was done on purpose, Gina learned her methods from someone. In regards to Emma I'm a bit iffy she has a tendency towards violence but shes also the good guy. I believe she would try to take revenge but then stop midway through. After all she tried cutting down Gina's apple tree to get some pay back. But Gina and Daniel were going to run away together to get away from Cora, this didn't happen because of Snow. I believe that when Gina saw how upset Snow was she selflessly decided to trust Snow so the little girl wouldn't be sad; she could've easily ran away if she wanted to but stayed to make Snow happy. After all this is good Gina we are speaking of.

Epicurean I think Cora could have found Gina and Daniel. She's incredibly powerful, tracking them down should be a synch for her.

zanhar1 Maybe, maybe not. We'll probably never find out.

elstef Regina is a popular character, so there are people who will not be mad at her no matter what she does. I think that the episode gave me a little understanding of her, but I knew before the episode that no matter her reasons, she has already done too many things to justify it all. Regina's mother was able to trick her and Daniel long enough to kill him, so it shouldnt surprise her that she was able to trick a child. Regina was being irrational, but she was in pain, so I guess that is understandable.

afirewiel The thing is, she has allowed her pain and anger to twist her into someone so different from who she originally was that if Daniel could see her now, I seriously doubt he'd recognize her. She has hurt so many people and in doing so, she is not only not honoring his memory's but rather ruining it. She doesn't once stop to ask herself what he would want her to do.

elstef ^exactly. And I think this whole "evil isnt born, it's made" thing is a bit of a cop-out. Does that mean we shouldnt blame Cora either, because somebody made her evil, and somebody made that person evil, and on and on? Obviously we are affected by outside influences, but at some point we have to take responsibilty for our own actions.
