Arrow: Katie Cassidy to Return as Series Regular for Season 6, Playing [Spoiler] 

has targeted original cast member Katie Cassidy for another encore — but this time as a series regular, for Season 6.

Cassidy will in fact return to the CW series in the final two episodes of

season, playing dearly departed Laurel Lance’s Earth-Two doppelgänger, the metahuman Black Siren, then continue in the same role starting this fall.

co-showrunner Marc Guggenheim said in a statement, “One of the things that most excites us about

is that we go where the story takes us. Last year, the story took us to the tragic death of Laurel Lance. This year, our midseason finale reintroduced us to Laurel’s doppelgänger, Black Siren. We were so taken by Katie’s fearless interpretation of this character that we knew her story was not yet finished.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Katie back to

this season show, she never really left the family.”

As announced last month via Twitter, Cassidy will appear in

‘ Season 2 finale (airing Tuesday, April 4), but as Laurel.

cast member and stuck with the series until the final stretch of Season 4, when Damien Darhk fatally stabbed Black Canary with one of Oliver’s arrows. She has made six #DCTV appearances since then, though, either in flashbacks, as part of an alternate reality or as Black Siren.

What happened to the ‘series regular on all DC shows’ deal that we heard about last year for her, John Barrowman and Wentworth Mille? Did I read that wrong?

They’ve all appeared in the other shows. Barrowman has been on Legends practically the entire season. Miller has been on the Flash at least twice and Legends several times. It looks like he might appear on Legends again the rest of the season.

But that is more of as an ‘reoccurring role’ not ‘series regular’. I always thought it was odd that they were getting series regular on all four shows but maybe they got a series regular contract but their episode count would be the same amount as if they were on one show but would be spread across the whole universe. Also haven’t seen any of them on Supergirl….I am just confused to what that deal was supposed to actually be.

Series regular only means you’ll be in at least 11 episodes. Not every episode

If someone is contracted as a series regular, they are obligated to be available when needed. When someone is just recurring, the shows sometimes have to work around actors availability or not use them at all. Therefore, they were given series regular contracts to assure availability when needed on any of the shows. That did not however guarantee frequent appearances.

To me, that whole deal was just another way of saying recurring guest star. If they were in fact series regulars, there names would’ve been popping up at the opening credits wether they are in the episode or not.

Soooo does this mean the new Black Canary won’t stay? I guess they can keep two meta humans with the same superpower one the same team but the example of Barry and Wally in Team Flash show this is not working…

Yeah, I think Dinah Drake is gonna hit the road. Arrow isn’t one for having two female characters play similar roles. (Shado died like a day after Sara arrived on the island.)

YES! So flipping exciting, I missed having Katie on this show. And the bitter tears of the haters are delicious.

Ollie will be trying to redeem her and himself. This had got to be impossible for Captain Lance. Looking forward to seeing original Laurel on Legends with her sister Sara.

Will original Laurel be back as part of Doomworld on Legends? Can’t see how that can last more than an episode as it also changes all the other shows . None of the other shows have new episodes next week except Legends but Arrow airs this week after the Doomworld Legends episode. I guess they can say the Arrow episode took place before the Legends episode but aired after it Doomworld lasts until the season finale of Legends.

I like her better as Black Siren, so it might be good. Anything to pull up this crap show would be appreciated

Thank goodness. I love Katie Cassidy and actually stopped watching the show when her character died. I didn’t even watch the episode, just read a recap here and couldn’t continue the show any further. That was the first time I ever stopped watching a show because of the death of a character. And to be clear, I LOVE Felicity so it had nothing to do with Olicity.

Honestly, I wish Katie had become a regular on Legends. That show seems to be the best fit for her. Besides, it would be great fun for Sara to interact with E-2 version of her sister.

These writers credibility is shot and on top of that they’re JUST STUPID lol!

Really? I know her fans will be happy but if they wanted to keep KC on the show they might as well kept Laurel around.

Is she going to be next season’s bad guy? Because I doubt the character has what it takes.

Black Siren is much more fun and palatable than E1 Laurel, so this could be fun. She’s terrible at fight sequences though so fingers crossed she stalks about in leather rather than trying to do fight scenes.

Someone should tell the people at cw that every time they bring back someone they just cheapen the whole tragic death thing…

You are right, but come on, you got to admit that the Earth 2 doppelganger is a cheap trick to cheat on the “yeaaah that death will stick and have biiiig consequences on all our characters” statement, don’t you think?

Right? Make a decision and have the gumption to stick with it. They kill Sara in season three, and bring her back in season four. Kill Laurel in season four, only to feature her parallel-universe doppelgänger (played by the same actress as the original) in season five.

Here’s a novel idea, maybe think it over a few times before killing a major character and ask, “do I really want to do this?”

Those showrunners are so clueless, it’s hysterical! I can’t wait to see her bring back the ratings next season…bwa ha ha ha.

“Last year, the story took us to the tragic death of Laurel Lance.” But who’s writing the story, Marc. Goodness gracious, Katie, how much faith do you have in this team? This time next year, the story could very well take us to Black Siren’s grave.

Has anyone told Captain Lance that there is an Earth 2 Laurel on Earth 1 ? He was in rehab during her last appearance.

The Legends season finale episode with original Laurel airs at 8 PM April 4 instead of 9 PM. The new Prison Break on Fox starts April 4 at 9 PM. Not sure if that is why they moved Legends but this could cause many people to miss the finale.

CW probably moved it because iZombie premieres at 9 on April 4.

I swear, it is so satisfying for things to backfire on Marc Guggenheim so spectacularly. Last year he was so dismissive and rude about killing off Black Canary and Laurel to fans of the character. So insistent that killing off such a legacy character didn’t matter that it makes me very happy that he got such intense backlash that he’s having to retract by first bringing another Black Canary and now bringing back Laurel, even if it is the E-2 version.

Why?!? I enjoy the show much more without her.

I love Laurel! I love Black Canary! I love Black Siren! I just wish she was coming back to a different show. Arrow sucks anymore and bringing Katie back to this crapfest is so disheartening. You messed up by killing her in the first place and now it just looks shady that your bringing her back. Nothing can save this show or it’s ratings. Give her some respect and allow her to move to Legends or The Flash.
