Having read the books, I'm quite sure he was never physically abused, but it's apparent (to me, at least) that he suffered from psychological (primarily emotional) abuse.

What are your thoughts?

That's right, I forgot about some of the physical abuse suffered at the hands of Dudley.

yrp pretty much what everyone else has said...but do think that vernon hit him sometimes just out of frustation, but i consider mulnutrition as physical abuse as well as a emotional one to deprive someone of food and neglect and lack of love from the dursleys which thank goodness didnt change harry's good nature and capacity to love :)

Dudley hit him physically and mostly emotionally, just look at the way they teat him. But the good thing in spite of all that, is that Harry never fought back (well he did a little in OOTP movie) by saying bad words like F*** to them and remains the good guy we all know.

Yes, okay he got his and thrown around but if anyone knows anything there are some serious child abusers out there and all considering harry actually had an okay life (compared to the abused kids). So yes and no. Tecnically yes but in real life abuse isnt just getting slapped-its litterally beaten till nearly death and as far as i know HARRY LIVED

@thehostfan1- that's not exactly true. There are certainly different degrees of abuse but just because Harry wasn't beaten nearly to death doesn't mean that he wasn't abused. Yes there are other people who've been victimized more severely than him, but that doesn't mean that what the Dursleys did to him wasn't abuse. Locking a child in a cupboard for several days definitely constitutes abuse. As does the verbal browbeating that he constantly had to endure and the many times that he was denied food. I don't know about the legal definition of abuse in England, but in America most of what was done to Harry would fall under the category of neglect; which is a form of abuse and could have(should have) resulted in legal action against the Dursleys.

Yeah, but not actual physical abuse (I'm not counting the way Vernon Dursley grabs Harry's hair in the films) but definetly emotional. But Dudley got abused even more. I mean, they've turned into this horrible person, and he's gonna live with that for the rest of his life. But Harry turned out a good person, Dudley is just doomed to being a thick mule.

EDIT: HAD to say it; Dan Radcliffe looked so ADORABLE when he was little!! LOOK AT HIM!! Aww, who knew in a couple of years time he'd be running around naked molesting horses? XD

Physically (beaten by Dudley and treated badly by Vernon)and psychologically. Besides, denying food is illegal and a crime. Not letting a child eat is horrible.
