Flynn thinks Ariel's gorgeous and tries to flirt with her but she's irritated by him. The Queen is jealous of Ariel's beauty(that's the only way she'd fit in).

Flynn: Hello there gorgeous! The names Rider, Flynn Rider! Forgive me but I'm getting lost in your big beautiful blue eyes.
Ariel: How unfortunate for me, too bad it's not far away.
Flynn: Okay red, beautiul, and sexy I didn't wanna have to do this but you leave me no choice. Here comes the smolder. *does smolder*
Ariel: DADDY! *Triton zaps Flynn*
Flynn: *coughs out smoke* You know this doesn't normally happen.
Ariel: Really? I imagine this happens often.

The Evil Queen and Mirror

Queen: Magic mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?
Mirror: Fair as the are majesty, a lovely maid I see. Eyes blue as the ocean and sky, flawless fair white skin, hair and lips red as the rose.
Queen: Ariel!

Flynn and Ariel are likely to be a nice couple... But maybe Ariel isn't as graceful and perfect as Snowy to make the Queen so jealous

Beauty is the only way the Queen will fit into any story. Her only goal is to be the fairest one of all. So to me with any princess(even Pocahontas who I find homely) she'd be jealous of her beauty and want to get rid of them so she could be the fairest. To me Ariel would love Flynn's looks but when he started being arrogant and his cheesyay of flirting she'd be disgusted. Than they'd get to know and slowly love each other.

I think it could work because Ariel and The Evil Queen are so similar to Rapunzel and Mother Gothel.
