I wanted to write this because it has been something that I have been thinking about for a while.
Now, first let me start par saying that, if we absolutely could not get a Bamon endgame on the show, there are a couple of other relationships that I would accept. Those two couples are Bonnie/Jeremy and Damon/Katherine.I do not think either of those couples will get endgame, though, especially because I believe that both Katherine and Jeremy will end up dying eventually. There are also other reasons I think that they won't work.
Obviously Jeremy's dead girlfriends will be a hurdle in his relationship with Bonnie. I also feel that, as long as that relationship goes on, both characters will only be in mainly secondary storylines.
As for Katherine and Damon, these are two very volatile and promiscious charcaters. Expecting these two to stay in a relationship with only eachother for all of eternity seems a bit far fetched to me. Also, while Nina's performances usually make it very easy to tell her characters apart, there are times when it unnerves me to even have the same actress who plays Elena flirting with Damon.
So why is it that I think Bamon will work? Well, Ill admit that (please don't kill me for saying this) right now I don't think that Damon is good enough for Bonnie in either the montrer ou the books. However, the writers of both series have made it clear that Damon is on a sort of journey of redemption. I think it is entirely possible that this path could lead him to Bonnie. Here's why.
The montrer has not yet had nearly enough Bamon scenes, and I could have used some plus of them in the livres as well. However, whenever they do have a scene in the montrer ou books, weather they are fighting, saving each other, ou just talking, they fit together so naturally that it seems impossible that these two will not end up in a relationship. In fact, I still remember someone mentioning that someone who had never seen the montrer before saw a Bamon scene and immediately asked if Bonnie and Damon were dating. If that is not chemistry, I don't know what is.
Now what we need is for tv Damon to stop getting drunk and killing people when he gets upset (which he has done less of lately, so that is progress). We also need for both tv and book Damon to stop fixating on Elena. She belongs with Stefan and, as he himself said, he is not Stefan.
We can never know where the montrer will go, and, considering that he Lost his memory in the last book, and that they are getting a new writer anyways, there is really no telling where the livres will go either. Considering how natural Bamon's chemistry is though, I feel like if the writers let the story go where it needs to go, we will eventually get Bamon.
