25. The Nightmare Before Christmas
Probably one of the most twisted Christmas films ever invented. Seriously? When i was little, Jack scared the crap out of me. As I've gotten older i have learned to respect the genius that is the Nightmare Before Christmas, mixing Christmas into Halloween while subtly conveying a message about stereotypes and the damage they can do, but i will forever remember cowering in fear when Christmas/Halloween rolled around. (is it weird that the boogie man never scared me? ...thought so.)
24. Alice in Wonderland
Ive got to say it: Disney has guts. Taking a story about tripping on mushrooms and turning it into a Disney classic that children will l’amour for generations to come? Smooth. i l’amour the characters, especially the mad hatter and of course the Cheshire cat. the weird people and places and vibrant couleurs have always wowed me, and made me suspect that the Disney animators might have been trippin a little too. 0.o
23. Finding Nemo
i loved this movie from the very first time i saw it. the characters are adorable,(my bubbles!) as well as deep and believable (no ones ever loved their son as much as Marlin)and i l’amour that their message shows that being different is not a bad thing, it just is. i l’amour the character development how both father and son are forced out of their sheltered existence to experience places and people they never would have dreamed of before. plus, Dory cracks me up!
22. Lilo and Stitch
Rock-a-Hula! this was probably one of the funnest films ive ever watched, as well as being pretty deep. imagine being completely alone, no family, no no friends, no memories, nothing. Stitches story, as well as Lilos past, combine to make a great film, and proves that toi dont have to have the conventional mother-father-sister-brother-pet goldfish dynamic to be a happy ohana.
21. 101 Dalmatians
okay, I'll admit it: im an animal lover. so the idea of my house being overrun with a hundred (and one) furry little monsters that could talk was a bit of a dream come true for me. this movie is a favorite, not only for the adorable characters, but for the wicked villain. Cruella de Vil is one of the nastiest characters i can recall in any Disney movie, if only for the fact that she is one of the few of Disney villains that can -and do- really exist. imagine moving in suivant to the crazy old dog killer.. *shivers*
20. Pocahontas
this is a beautiful movie, set in colonial times, that really struck me, even as a kid, as being a movie of change. Pocahontas and John Smith have always symbolized (to me) the racial issues that are still alive today, and how even one person speaking against racism can be the change that overthrows it. the song "savages", sung par both the settlers and the native americans, really gives toi the feeling of war, which is the same no matter which side toi fight for. besides, Pocahontas is one of my favori Disney characters, because she stuck to her feelings, despite them leading her down the harder path.
19. Wall*E
this is probably one of the most political Disney films i have ever seen. i loved how it tackled the issues of pollution, global warming and rapid consumerism without over-capitalizing on it. yes, it played a big part, but it never overshadowed the main character and his plight. issues aside, im just astounded that they put so much life and feeling and emotion into a character that cant say plus than a few words. the dynamic between Eva and Wall*E is nothing short of breathtaking, and i will freely admit that i cried the first time i saw Wall*E forget her. (oh, like toi didnt)
18. Bambi
Okay, what the hell, Disney!? yeah, i understand that death usually helps to add depth to a story a story has to have depth to make the characters seem plus realistic but god! do toi always have to go for the parents? poor little Bambi, i almost went into hysterics when i first saw this movie. i distinctly remember repeatedly whimpering, "but hes so little," for about half an heure so, yeah, good one Disney. No but i really l’amour this movie, it has such a strong message about natures fragility and the timelessness of... of... of... hes just so little... *whimper*
17. The Jungle Book
i honestly wish that i could ever be lucky enough to meet someone whos even half as cool as Balloo. something about this movie has always stuck with me, maybe because i have repeatedly wished that i could live in the jungle like a wild child since i was six. the ending was always really sad to me though, even though i know that he was better off in the village, i couldnt help but think that if i was donné the choice i would chose the wild, not to mention the only family i had ever know. plus, he made my ours sad. >:(
16. Dumbo
i actually didnt see this movie until pretty recently, which, of course, led to me kicking myself (figuratively) for not seeing it sooner. this is another one of Disneys classic tear-jerkers, which i admit i am a sucker for. the song playing when Dumbo visits his mother makes that one of the saddest scenes i have ever seen in my life. it does turn out alright in the end though, at least he gets his mom back. but i hate those other elephants. and speaking of elephants, the drunk scene with the rose elephants was probably one of the best, if the weirdest, scenes in the movie. the color and designs were amazing, especially for such an early movie. though i have to admit, the éléphant made of éléphant heads weirded me out just a little.
