And not ashamed of it. My absolute favorite books have permanent dog-ears at my favorite quotes. Of course, I don't fold other people's books. Just mine.

Actually, I do a combo of all of these things, depending on where I'm at when I am called away from the book.

I beleive strongly that dog ears and placing a book face down are blasfemious practices. You don't treat a book that way.

I tend to rip a strip of newspaper and use that.

I do leave them face-down, but that so often leads to calamity when someone else picks it up.

My favorite bookmark pages are those little christian leaflets you find in ziplock bags. Perfect size, often entertaining reading in their own right.

i love bookmarks. I make them if i don't have any. or find pretty ones and print them. I don't need them i can just remember my page, but i love them:P

My favourite bookmark I got from Ottakers when I was 7. Had it 8 years now and I've used it in hundreds of books. I can still remember the first book I used it in, Swallows and Amazons.

i nearly always have a handy bookmark. in fact, every time i would go to the library i would get one of each of the ones they had on display. so i usually have a nice-sized stack on one of my many bookshelves. to dog-ear or lay down without closing it sounds terrible. i get very upset about that stuff. i will use scrap if i have to, but its usually a bookmark. creasing of the spine or pages is very upsetting to me.

Each year i get lots of really nice bookmarks for chirstmas and birthdays so i use tham and leave them in my fav books so they are never without.

For me, it's become a habit to not only dog-ear but also remember the page number. I try (so hard!) not to dog-ear the pages of other peoples book but there's about 50% chance. My friends understand though. (They are totally great! it takes a LOT to put up with me on a daliy basis!) I also have this annoying habit of correcting mistakes or highilihting something cute or funny but that's only in my books.

I have 8 neices and nephews. So bookmarks defeat the purpose they was intended for. I've had them eaten, stolen, lost, vaccumed, baked into mud "pies" (literally!), and all kinds of stuff. My personal favorite: burned then toss into the toliet! I had fun digging it outta there!

I used to dog-ear my books, but not anymore, I have used book-marks, school papers, flash cards, even toilet paper (unused of course) I just cant remember the page, and I nevr leave the book open, to many siblings could ruin that

I just remember which part I'm at, sometimes it takes a little bit to find the page again, but that doesn't bother me as I just cringe at the very idea of dog-earing (or making any kind of mark in them) and even the thinnest bit of paper can stretch the book and weaken the glue holding it together. I just- I love my books to the point where I've learned how to read a book so that it doesn't crease/crack the spine. *Shrugs* I know it's annoying and obsessive, but I can't help it. I always feel guilty if I mark up a book, I mean I wouldn't treat my friends so roughly, so why should I do so to a book which can become a best friend or even a part of yourself?

To be honest I dog-ear them more than I should, if I have a bookmark I use it.

I'll use anthing that can act as a bookmark; it doesn't need to be an actual, official "I bought it from a bookstore" bookmark. Just so long as it is flat, and thin.

I love the look and feel of a heavily dog-eared book, it looks loved. If a book is all new and pristine looking, it doesn't have the same charm.

I take whatever is near me. It may be a scrap of paper, a bookmark, or I might just memorize the page number, but I never dog ear a page. Usualy I take a scrap of paper from the nearest sheet of paper.

well I have a trillion bookmarks. I like to match my bookmark with my book :) But I also save movie ticket stubs and stuff and use them as bookmarks. Also if I loved a book and had used a random piece of paper as a bookmark I will save that bookmark and use it with other books too.

I yell at them. I will draw all over my books and bend the spine back and it looks loved to me. But for some reason I just hate dog-eared pages.

I have a magnet bookmark so it won't fall out. Actually I love my bookmark. It's an owl. I found it a few months ago in one of the books I picked up from the library. I thought it was a shame how someone had lost their bookmark, but I adore my Owl now.

I place the book facedown. But usually I don't put a book down until its the end of the chapter. And ganazowana, why do you hate it when people place the book down? It doesn't damage my books when I do it, so it hardly matters..

anyway, why would you want it to be in like-new condition? i love old books - the more dog-eared, the better! new books are not friends; old books have been loved and enjoyed.

Sorry that was my little freak out. My best friends both bought me a book mark so i alternate between them and cause i always have a book on me i always have my friends close by.

What usually happens is I get so engrossed in a book, I keep on reading and reading until there's no more pages to read, and I think 'Where'd the pages go!? NOOOOOO, IT'S OVER ALREADY!!!'. Sad, but true.
