‘The Flash’: How will Barry’s decision change the universe of shows? 

Barry (Grant Gustin) made a very interesting decision to close out Season 2 of “The Flash” — he ran back in time to stop his mom from being killed by Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh) and effectively unmade not only his own life, but the lives of everyone, everywhere.

Now the question has to be asked what does it all mean for not only “The Flash,” but “Arrow,” “Legends of Tomorrow” and even “Supergirl.” Barry has essentially unmade history by saving his mom. While things might be bright and cheery in his world — his mom is probably still alive — this is yet another situation where he disregards the rules of time travel and the dangers they warn of.

By fixing his own life, there will be a ripple effect felt on his own show that could very well ripple throughout the universe in ways fans won’t be able to see until the fall.

Did the crossover with “Supergirl” happen? Do Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) even exist on “Legends of Tomorrow”? Is Team Flash still a thing and have they ever met anyone from Star City? For that matter, did Barry Allen ever meet Oliver Queen back in the “Arrow” Season 2 episode “The Scientist”? Who saved Team Arrow from certain doom in Nanda Parbat during “Arrow’s” Season 3 finale?

These are all questions that will have fans stewing all summer long, but they are going to be things that need to be answered. Chances are producers are prepared to do just that when the show’s return, but it’s incredibly important that they be addressed, if only for our collective sanity.

After all, who’s to say Barry is even still the Flash in this universe now?

One thing’s for sure, if this is how “The Flash” is approaching the “Flashpoint” storyline from the comics, things are about to get very interesting.

For those who don’t read the comics, “Flashpoint” showcases a wildly changed — largely for the worse — Earth, in which Reverse Flash created an alternate timeline when Barry went back in time to save his own mother. This dramatically different timeline rings throughout a number of superheroes in the DC universe.

Should this be the story “The Flash” is adapting, you truly need to let it take a toll on the other shows to properly tell that story.
