So as some of toi may have seen, Rick Riordan has shown us that the girl who, in the character art, is wearing the purple dress/toga thing (not quite sure what it’s called) and or armour and has the two dogs, is indeed Reyna.
Let’s start with the dogs. They are automaton hounds par the names of Aurum and Argentium. With a little thing called a translator, and some common sense, I have figured out that their names are of course Latin. Aurum means gold, so the or dog, and Argentium means silver, so the silver dog. Rick also says that the hounds are deadly.
So my question is, what is their purpose? I tried Google but it’s not in the mood to co-operate right now. So I’m just gonna rattle off some theories lurking in my brain.
a) They could be her protectors ou something along that line. Though RR says she is powerful so she might not really need them. Who knows? Well, RR does but anyway.
b) I would say that they might just be Camp Jupiter’s but RR says they are Reyna’s automatons so
that’s unlikely
c) They could be something like servants to her. Helping her out, getting things for her.
d) This suivant theory has to do with her possible immortal parent. Hecate/Trivia has always been associated with dogs. They are her companions and sacred animal. She was always seen with a dog. Maybe Reyna is a daughter of Trivia and the chiens were a gift from her mom to be her companions and helpers. Just a thought…
Whatever they are there for, I’m guessing that they will be important in some way ou form.
Okay, now for Reyna’s immortal parent. RR says that it’s a god/goddess that we haven’t met before. It could be one we’ve only heard of and never seen ou one we’ve never even heard of. But the god/goddess is powerful, I’m guessing, since RR says that Reyna is powerful. Of course all gods are powerful in their own way but…I think toi guys know what I mean.
So I scanned my head and the internet and got some ideas.
A) So, one you’ve already heard, and that of course is Trivia. Trivia is very powerful and has the association with the chiens so it would make sense. We haven’t met her yet, it’s possible.
B) It’s possible that Reyna could be the daughter of Maia, goddess of Growth, ou the daughter of Flora, goddess of Flowers. Both seem pretty unlikely to me though. I don’t imagine that these two are all that powerful.
C) It is possible that Reyna could be the daughter of Fortuna, who was the personification of luck (not always good luck).
-actually, aside from the parentage for a second. When I was researching Fortuna, I found a webpage that talked about a jour that was sacred to Fortuna and that later on in the mois there was a festival called For Fortuna. I got all excited thinking it might have something to do with the feast of fortune but then I realized that the site mentioned dates and my bubble deflated. June 11th and June 24th make no sense for Percy’s quest…so yeah…disappointment.
D) Okay so I found this one website with this GIANT, and I mean giant, liste of minor Roman gods/goddesses. There was no way that I was searching up every one of them. Here’s the web address if toi would like to look at them. link
E) Okay, there’s a slight possibility that Reyna’s father could be Cupid, though I seriously doubt it. But we haven’t seen him before, he’s Roman. So most people should know, he is the god of love. He is powerful. l’amour can sometimes be the most powerful weapon of all. Reyna doesn’t seem like the kind of person who could be a daughter of Cupid though…but who knows?
F)Another possibility is Aurora/Aurona (I’ve seen it spelt both ways). She is the goddess of Dawn and her name means “the dawn, daybreak, ou sunrise.” There aren’t many myths about her that I can find, but we haven’t seen her before. Her name is also related to the Latin aurum which, as seen with the dog, means gold. If she is a daughter of Aurora, the or dog could be a gift from her mother. The silver could be a gift from another god, is there a god of dusk?...hmmm. Anyways, it’s a theory.
There are other possibilities of course, but those are the gods/goddesses that I knew plus about. I’m leaning towards Trivia but hey, what do I know, I’m not RR.
Okay, the last thing RR says is “Will she be friend ou foe to Percy Jackson? Ah, that’s a good question.” So basically, what I’m thinking that she starts off as a foe. As most of us have seen from that video of part of the 2nd chapter, Reyna isn’t exactly warm to Percy. Anyways, I’m thinking that Reyna and Percy will be pretty cold to each other at the start but in the end be Friends ou something like that. Percy will save the jour yet again and Reyna will l’amour him for it. (not that way, but toi should know what I mean)
There’s always the possibility though that Reyna will always hate Percy. That no matter what he does ou who he saves, she’ll always think of him as that Greek (once she finds out) who was part of the reason that she Lost Jason. And of course whatever she saw that made her so scared of him at the start could just stay there in her brain forever. So many possibilities...At least there is little over a mois left.
One last thing that probably isn’t all that important. With the character art of Reyna made to a bigger size, we can see the plate thing in the background better and some of the writing. I tried to write down and translate what I say. Here is my attempt:
-From what I can see, it says “Justitia F….mentum Regni”
-Justitia means “Justice”
-Regni means “the kingdom of”
-Now for the other word, Reyna’s head is blocking it but with a little web surfing I found that it is probably fundamentum which mean “the foundation of”
-So the plate may say Justitia Fundamentum Regni
-According to Google translate that means “the foundation of the kingdom of justice”
-So the Romans whole way of life and devise is about Justice being their foundation and what they live par and blah blah blah
Obviously Reyna is very important than, though we already guessed that, considering she is sitting on a trône with the rules of the empire ou something behind her, and wearing what she is wearing.
That’s all I have to say. Take what toi will with this, make your theories. I’d like to hear them.
And sorry if this article sucked. I wrote it on the fly…plus I’m not the best writer.
Wait! I just went and looked back at Rick Riordan’s post and realized something. It could be nothing but anyways. When RR blogs about Frank, it’s called “Meet Frank Zhang, Demigod.” When RR blogs about Reyna, it just says “Meet Reyna.” RR didn’t say demigod…maybe Reyna is plus than that ou different. ou maybe it means nothing. What do toi guys think?
Ok, I just keep adding plus as time goes on. Reyna's character art and infois up on the Heroes of olympus website. Here's what it says:
Reyna and Her Hounds
These chiens are precious in plus ways than one. They protect Reyna, a very important demigod who holds a hand in Percy's fate.
What do they do? Aside from sparkle (one is silver, the other gold), these hounds act as Reyna's personal bodyguards.
Noteworthy: These chiens are not just encased in metal on their bodies, they have rubies for eyes. Talk about valuable pets!
So, my question about the chiens was answered. As it turns out, my first guess was right. Who would've thought it?
So she has automaton chiens that protect her, that are silver and or with rubie eyes. Hmmm, someone is lucky. ou maybe unlucky. Maybe she is in such danger that she needs them...
And why are they precious in plus ways than one...?
Also, she holds a hand in Percy's fate. Uh oh, that's not good...
