Have toi ever had high expectations ruin your interest/enjoyment in something?

English used to be my favourite subject in early secondary school, but due to high expectations from teachers/parents/other students, was one of my least favourite and most stressful in the end. Really robbed the enjoyment from it. Sort of a corny subject (ew), but was wondering if other people have experienced similar scenarios.

I've gone through that quite a bit, but mostly due to my own ridiculously high expectations for myself rather than what other people have expected of me. Since I expect nothing short of perfection from myself, I wind up disappointed and disinterested in myself a lot.

I think the only time I can think of when someone else's expectations have ruined things is with art.
People expected a lot from me as far as art was concerned, like drawing them extravagant, detailed drawings on the spot and offering nothing in return. Not to mention that my art class was absolutely hellish and did little but piss me off.
I've gone from drawing nonstop everyday to drawing something awful maybe once ou twice a mois because I got so sick of the way people treated my drawing "talents".

I'd like to get back into it, though, if I could motivate myself. But I can never seem to motivate myself to do much of anything, even the things I really want to do like write and draw and learn German and musique and... *carries on and whines about my pitiful state of being for hours*

Sounds like me and my perfectionist self. I probs put plus pressure on myself than other people combined, because I'm damn pedantic about everything. Hope toi can get back into art more, it's a great skill to have. Pretty similar situation with me and writing- have only written academic essays for the past 4 years because I can't motivate myself to put pen to paper and write any fanfiction/original fiction, even though I’d really like to.

Well mostly high expectations ruin media that I am interested in. Let's take for an example Hollywood movies. I'll have such a high expectation that it'll be great but when I actually see it. Sometimes I wanna use bleach for my eyes to be frank. Nowadays I am not at all like that but I used to be.

So many times, I cannot even remember them all. One of my favori things to rant about on this subject is middle school dances. Back in my horrible, highly stressful middle school days, there were three dances in a year. They were all different themed, and the first time I went to one, (seventh grade) I cannot tell toi how much I hated it. The nourriture cost a fortune and there were zero decorations. My Friends (who now I realize only kept me around to compliment my art around other people to look good) were those populaire kids who always danced and looked 'cool'. I would just stand there and look awkward. The musique was horrible as well. After going to two of those dances, I never went to a dance again. (not even prom, which just seemed like a fantastic way to get sick from alcohol and contagious viruses.)

Yep.
For others high expectations, lire was ruined for me for a long time. Due to the program I was put into I was forced to read and write a rapporter on a book every single week. Made me absolutely despise lire for years.

As for my own high expectations... my somewhat high expectations in finding a partner pretty much ruins what some would call the 'fun' part of dating I suppose. But meh xP I'll keep my expectations and find one person rather than drop my expectations for others who I don't even click with.

I am moderately intrigued par your somewhat high expectations. It'll help with my studies in astrologie considerng I've read that scorpios tend to have high expectations. Mind sharing? ou is it too private? If it's too private don't worry about it. I am just curious.

Nah of course not :) I like to read in my spare time. I just hated lire during that time in school as it became a chore to do so.
