Teachers shouldn't force us to go up in front of the class...If toi agree, tell me why

Agree. Some people are nervous to go up there and might be really embarrassed/freaked. ou they're like me and go up there and get in trouble in front of everyone for the hell of it, which would just piss the teacher off. They might say something like "I didn't do the project herp derp suck my balls." and walk off. (I literally a dit that once, maybe two ou three weeks ago. Not kidding.)

I somewhat agree. I think when kids are young they should test things out and find their comfort zone (and step past it a little), but there comes a point when a person can tell public speaking is just not their thing, and I think people should respect that. I know speeches are a preparation for what students might need later in life, but honestly, what percentage of the students are really going to public speak on a daily basis when they get a real career? I still think schools should do speeches (because obviously we all need at least the bare minimum of public speaking skills), just not as much as what's assigned in school.

EDIT: I see a lot of people on here saying public speaking improves social skills and makes them plus comfortable in front of an audience. I have to say I disagree. Public speaking doesn't improve your social skills. All you're doing is standing up in front of a bunch of people and talking. Unless you're taking questions from the class, you're not interacting with them. In my case, I just stand there and talk and wait for it to be over. If anything, it has decreased my social skills. I have become even shyer since I've had to do speeches. So obviously speeches don't always produce the results people expect they will.

I agree teachers shouldn't make toi go up in front of the class. Some people (like me) don't enjoy going up and presenting and feel embarrassed par it.

toi probably shouldn't get all up in peoples' faces just because the didn't answer exactly how toi wanted. It's kind of how the aléatoire spot works. ._.

Anyway, I agree with toi to some extent. Being exceedingly shy, I hate when I'm forced to share presentations with my class, especially when I feel I didn't do a particularly good job. On the other hand, almost any form of job involves some sort of formal speaking, so it's good to get practice.

i agree and i disagree. first i think that if kids really dont like speaking in from of other people then toi cant make them, but then it does help them get better t making speeches. so yes and no^^

Well, I'm going to have to sit on the fence for this one. Though it is very important to learn social and presentation skills (esspecially to prepare for a career), some people (me included) are just terrified of public speaking in front of their peers, and I mean, beyond terrified.

I think teachers should be able to force us to do short 1-5 minute presentations, but 30-60 minutes is pushing it (yes, in highschool, toi DO have to do long speaches like that).

Also @ Ms_Mea: Read the commentaires of those that disagree as well. They are not a waste of time. If toi take into consideration their point, toi can come up with a counter-point, making your project much plus proffessional and persuading.

First off, if toi ask a question toi need to accept that there might be opposing answers. And yes, I am one of them...I admit I don't always enjoy speaking in front of a class but it is a skill that certainly will be used later on in life because in the real world toi can't chicken out of doing something just because toi don't like it...for instance, the career field I have plans to go into is definitely one that involves speaking at press conferences so this is an especially important skill for me and I am thankful that the teachers require it.
