Once Upon A Time creators talk about Emma\'s relationships that could help save her from being the Dark Shawn & a LGBT story for...
enters its fifth season on September 27, the show picks up where everything left off with Season 4 — Emma (Jennifer Morrison) is the newest Dark One, and it will take some people close to her to get her back.
We spoke with creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis today following a screening of the premiere to get some intel as to what we can expect.
“Her relationships with everybody are going to be tested,” Kitsis told us about Emma’s situation. “We love the idea of watching Hook fight for her, as well as Regina and her family.”
The notion that two of the characters closest to Emma fought their own dark sides is not lost on the producers. “We also love the notion that two of the people that she has expectedly and not-expectedly grown closer to over the years, Regina and Hook, have both battled darkness themselves, and the fact that she is facing darkness and they’ve faced it, and how their experiences can inform what she’s going through and either help or hinder her is something that we want to explore in this half of the season and beyond,” Adam Horowitz reflected.
might be giving us the show’s first exploration of a same-sex romance. Following discussion about Mulan’s return — and considering that when we last saw her, there was a tease of something between her and Aurora — Edward Kitsis confirmed that the LGBT angle will not be ignored on the series.
“I would say that we know that that community have been big supporters of this show, and we would love to be able to tell a love story that reflects that,” Kitsis said. Horowitz had his own things to add, as well. “We want the show to reflect the world as it is now,” he said. “Whether that’s going to be with any particular character, we’re not going to say, but it is something we want to do this year, and it’s something that we think is important to do on this show, because this is the world we live in.”
Season 5 begins September 27 with “The Dark Swan.” Take a look at some preview images here on KSiteTV!

If OUAT starts throwing in gay characters just to satisfy the movement, I AM DONE! So sick of the sycophantic atmosphere in TV shows these days. When Glee started doing that, just having previously straight characters just DECIDE they were gay and ruining great plots, they jumped the shark and never really righted the ship, it went completely downhill from there. I absolutely LOVED Kurt’s character and his story but just bowing down to the agenda will NOT improve the shows at all. Mulan was hinted to be gay, fine, carry on with that story, but please leave Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) ALONE, If they throw that into the mix, I will never watch again and I believe that kind of move will also lose your core audience, those of us who do not mind a little derivation now and then to our beloved Fairy Takes as long as it makes sense. THIS DOES NOT, quit being sheep and just do what you have done the past few seasons, make us happy with great content.
Micci I hope you don’t support Outlaw Queen … Because it is a derivation to our beloved Fary Tales as well … Robin is made for Marian not Regina. And him loving Regina does not make sense ! All of that bc of a tatoo ? Lol. I hate to tell you this but a big part of the audience love and support LGTB people and LGTB relationships and sometimes it makes more sense that Straight relationships. Just have to say love Regina and Mulan too hope we get to see more of Mulan’s story. Viva la Swan Queen. Viva Rumbelle and Viva SleepingBeauty. Hell yes even RedBeauty ! So happy we get to see Ruby loved her.
Any LGBT pairing INSTEAD of SwanQueen is a mega slap in the face and if you would be satisfied with that then please try to learn some self respect.
