Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Question

What made Nausicaa, gasp when she was un-buttoning Lestal's dress? Was did she sight a wound ou something? ou did she actually realize she was un-clothing her?

When the ship of the Tolmekians ( Pardon my spelling mistakes) ship crashed, she sighted the princess, and that the princess was in chains. She moved her to a safer area, then started to unbutton her dress. She gasped, paused ( her hands were shaking) and put the "zipper" back together. I have ALWAYS been confused @ this part...

It was actually pretty obvious, really. Nausicaa noticed how bad the wound was and that it was untreatable, therefore reclothing her. I know that was the reason, because she would have tried to dress her wounds if they weren't fatal.
