iPod Question

I need help

I have any ipod touch that is 16Gigs and My friend has an ipod touch which is 32gigs. Hers can play musique with out the headphones in, but mine can't.
Is this because hers has bigger l’espace on it, ou is it a different model?. ou how do i change mine so i Can play musique without the headphones in?

Im soooo confused!!
