Brazen Beasts seen on Game of Thrones set, and plus set images of Diocletian’s Palace 

season 5 rolls on in Split, more and more images surface.

Yesterday, we shared some images of three separate sets undergoing construction at Diocletian’s Palace.

has provided a new set of pictures showing filming around the Croatian location.

It appears as though the show’s incarnation of the Brazen Beasts will be making an appearance next season. What this means for the whole Sons of the Harpy subplot remains to be seen.

Split.com.hr has provided some more images of two out of the three aforementioned sets themselves. The following images are of the reconstructed chamber where Daenerys locked up her dragons at the end of season 4.

The following three images are of the tavern set. The architecture suggests that the tavern is also located in Meereen, or at least somewhere in Essos.

The only set at the Palace not shown in these new pictures is the “Dragon Door Back” set.

It’s nice to see the inclusion of one of the Meereenese “groups”. Interestingly, all of the masks shown look the same, rather than the variety worn in the 

. Another possibility (suggested by the masked men surrounding the Unsullied) is that the Beasts are cut, and the extras shown are the show’s version of the Sons, who wear masks to protect their identities. Thoughts?

I just want silly Meereenese names that are hard for people to pronounce.

The masks would certainly be consistent with the design of the Brazen Beasts as seen in the novels. To be honest, however, I had completely forgotten that the Brazen Beasts were a thing in A Dance With Dragons (it’s been a while since I read that book). So when I first saw those pictures, my first instinct was that we were getting our first glimpse at the Sons of the Harpy.

It makes sense that such vigilantes would wear masks, and truth be told, the Brazen Beasts seem like they would be an easy thing for Game of Thrones to cut, given that they serve a similar purpose to the Unsullied. We’ve seen no indication that the Shavepate will be cast, so if these are the Brazen Beasts, maybe Hizdahr just commands them from the start?

I think it may just be a visual nod to them although I’ll be happy to be proven wrong.

I think the Sons of the Harpy will have to feature in some way to show the growing dissent to Dany’s rule.

Feminine faces plus horns says Sons to me. Plus they’re all wearing Master’s robes. Brazen Beasts seem like the sort of thing they’d cut for sure, since they already have Unsullied to patrol the streets.

It does perhaps mean they’re getting into a lot of the political intrigue of the Dany plot, which could mirror some events in King’s Landing (and maybe even the Wall). If handled well, the internal squabbling could be a dominant theme of Season 5.

I agree, I guess Brazen Beasts might be cut and the sons of the Harpy are the ones with the masks.

it looks in the scene above that they are murdering an unsullied as they have something around his neck…now we just need Galazza for the Harpy!!

Meereen is so knotty and complicated, I forgot about the Brazen Beasts until this post.
