Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Which Game of Thrones actors will snag an Emmy nomination this week?
The Emmy nominations are only a few short days away, with the announcements taking place live on Emmys.Com this Thursday morning at 8:40am Est. It’s the perfect time to brush up on that official submissions list from last month, and take a closer look at who’s in the running for
, and what their chances of garnering a nomination are.
Season 4 was filled with amazing episodes and amazing performances across the board, so our actors will not only be facing tough competition from other series, but also from each other.
What can be said about Charles Dance? Certainly a lot, and much of it can be found in our Curtain Call. A great way to send off Tywin Lannister would be with an Emmy nod, but unfortunately, it’s probably going to go to the one who stuck him with a couple of arrows!
So far, Peter has been nominated every year for his work on Game of Thrones, and there is certainly no need to end the tradition now. He was given more than enough to work with this season, and he didn’t miss a single beat. His trial speech alone is deserving of a nomination, and in my opinion, a second win. Even if you weren’t a fan of the beetle scene, imagine if someone else had delivered the lines.
Without a doubt, this was Kit’s strongest season yet. He arguably
Jon Snow this year, and didn’t disappoint when he had to carry much of an entire episode on his own. And how about that sword fighting? Thank you,
Nikolaj was great this year, his final scene with Gwendoline, and his every frame from
stand out as his best moments of the season. But the story of this Supporting Actor race is that Peter Dinklage has it on lock.
Emilia will return as a familiar face to voters on this year’s submission ballot. Dany’s arrival at the gates of Meereen was impressive, and our hearts broke with her as she chained her dragons, but it’s just not her year.
Natalie did beautifully with everything she was given this year – her veiled disdain for Joffrey, going toe to toe with her future sister/mother-in-law Cersei, and of course, her visit with young Tommen and Ser Pounce! But her absence in the later episodes won’t help her chances.
Lena may have one of the best chances among our supporting actresses to garner a nomination this year. She is a recognizable name, and although a certain scene had a fair bit of controversy this year, her performance remained untouched. She shone in Cersei’s silent moments, and her reaction to the death of her son was more than believable.
Sansa had quite the transformation this year, and Sophie really came into her own as an actress. It’s going to be exciting to see where she will take us with Darth Sansa, which just might be enough for a nomination in the future!
This is the one I think all of us fans are not-so-secretly hoping for the most. Her silent stare in the finale was the cherry on top of an outstanding season by Maisie. At just 17 she continues to impress in every single scene, even when standing beside the most seasoned of actors. While we’re at it, can we slip in a last minute submission for Rory McCann?
If he doesn’t get nominated, we riot. Oberyn’s death sent shockwaves through the press and social media, and if the public’s reaction to his character is any indication of the number of votes he will get, Pedro is a shoo-in. He came and went in a blaze of glory, and I’m certainly hoping he snags the win as well.
Coming off of her nomination last year, and another stellar performance as the Queen of Thorns (
), Diana Rigg is a sure bet as well, even despite her lack of screen time in the second half of the season.
Share your thoughts/odds/arguments in the comments below, and here’s hoping for a grand nomination celebration later this week!

Peter dinklage, maisey Williams, Pedro pascal, I would love to see all three win, Tyrian at court was a great scene, all of maiseys scenes, and the mountain vs the viper/ when red viper tells Tyrian he will be his champion hands down the best scenes
How to pick one performer amongst so many great ones? Not fair.
Peter Dinklage and Diana Rigg because the Emmys are a popularity contest. Granted, both will have more than earned their nominations, but equally talented individuals like Pedro Pascal, Maisie Williams, and Charles Dance will likely be ignored because they’re just not what Academy voters easily recognize. And anyone who tells you these voters actually watch all the nominated episodes and performances is lying or kidding themselves.
Charles Dance better be nominated. It is the first time he has ever been on the ballot and it was his final season on the show. I think he has a better shot at winning than Peter Dinklage. Pedro Pascal should be nominated as a guest actor, but won’t be. Dame Dianna Rigg will most likely get a nom. Maisie is the most deserving female, but is still a very long shot.
Peter Dinklage, Sophie Turner, Pedro Pascal.
I think prestige matters to Emmy voters which is why I think Charles Dance will get the nomination (deservedly so). I think Dance and Dinklage both get noms ala season 4 of breaking bad (Giancarlo and Aaron Paul) .Nicolas will not get a nom as his best chance was in season 3. Sophie Turner has no chance IMO as many unsullied I know are underwhelmed by her Sansa character. Hopefully this changes in the future. Emilia Clarke will not get a repeat nom as this one will go to Maisie(this one I’m least sure about). Natalie Dormer will not get a nom due to the reasons stated in the article. Maisie Willians will get a nom and will win best supporting actress outight because she’s deserving and well known at this point. Pedro Pascal and Diana Rigg will get noms for obvious reasons.
Charles Dance has been in a substantial number of films, but as much TV work as he as done it is surprising that he has only one Emmy nomination.
With this show his talents have a wider viewing, I think.
He really has aced all his scenes , I really hope he gets in, but this time deserves a win.
Dinklage will get his customary nomination. There’s a minor possibility of Dance getting into that category as well, though I wouldn’t bet on it (particularly with “Breaking Bad” almost assured of getting two nominations in the same category).
I don’t expect anybody to get a supporting actress nomination. Clarke would be in first position, as a previous nominee, but I’m skeptical that she had anything this year that would get her a repeat. Headey was good, but I still judge her nomination odds by the Blackwater Rule (i.e., “Blackwater didn’t get her a nomination; is this a better spotlight than that episode?”), so I’ll say it’s unlikely. Sophie and Maisie are both superb, but actors that young aren’t serious Emmy contenders 99.9% of the time.
Pascal will get the Guest Actor nomination, with all the buzz, and I could see him winning, though his submission scene is only five minutes.
Rigg is a big name and can probably repeat, though she didn’t really do much this year.
Supporting Actor: Peter Dinklage is a lock to be nominated. Even better, he has several very strong possible submission tapes (“The Laws of Gods and Men” is his best and most likely choice, but he was great in pretty much every episode he appeared in this season). Whatever he chooses, he has a real chance to win for the first time since Season 1. Charles Dance (submitted for the first time this year) could surprise some people by getting in, and I would be very happy if he did. The problem is that this category is brutally competitive – possibly the most competitive in terms of the sheer number of qualified nominees, and there are only two “open” slots to fill. If he does get in, I would say “Breaker of Chains” (which features his great scene with Tommen and another strong scene with Oberyn) is probably his best bet.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was fantastic all season, and another year of positive buzz after his breakout season last year could help him. On the other hand, if he couldn’t get in last year when he had even stronger material and was clearly the most deserving male cast member, he unfortunately won’t make it this year now that Dinklage is once again garnering most of the attention (and quite deservedly so). “Oathkeeper” and “The Laws of Gods and Men” are probably his best submission choices if he gets in. Kit Harington had his best season in my opinion, and unlike many of his fellow cast members, he has one extremely strong submission episode in “The Watchers on the Wall” wherein he’s the unquestioned star. But against such stiff competition, he’s unlikely to break through.
Supporting Actress: Emilia Clarke was nominated last year and therefore she has to be considered a decent bet to return. Once you’re in with Emmy voters, you tend to stay in for a while. I personally thought that Clarke’s best material came in “The Children” during the scene where she chains her dragons, but she may decide to submit “Breaker of Chains”, where she has a speech in Valyrian similar to the one that earned her the nomination last year. Whatever she picks, however, she’ll have a hard time beating Breaking Bad’s Anna Gunn (as will any woman who gets nominated in this category).
I’d love to see Lena Headey get nominated, and she has an outside chance, but it will be tough. Her potential episode choices would include “First of His Name” (wherein she has the most overall screentime), “The Lion and the Rose” (her reaction to Joffrey’s death), and “The Children” (her scene with Tywin). Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams have both been brilliant this season, and they have great potential submission episodes in “The Mountain and the Viper” and “The Children”, respectively. But Emmy voters almost never nominate “child” actors, so it’s difficult to imagine them breaking through. Natalie Dormer did some very fine work this season (her seduction of Tommen in “Oathkeeper” one of my favorite scenes of the year), but she’s definitely on the outside looking in.
Guest Actor: Pedro Pascal has a real chance here, especially after several actors who were considered strong contenders (Michael J. Fox, Glenn Fleshler) were left off the ballot. If he gets in, he’ll be competing for “Mockingbird”, which is a strong enough showcase for his talents to get him the win. Out of all of Game of Thrones’ possible nominations, I might be rooting for this one the most.
Guest Actress: Diana Rigg should be nominated again. She submitted “The Lion and the Rose”, which is a solid choice. I might have gone with “Oathkeeper”, but she should get in either way.
The Absolute Lock and Potential Winner: Peter Dinklage
Likely Returning Nominees: Diana Rigg, Emilia Clarke
Outside Contenders: Charles Dance, Lena Headey, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau
Extreme Long Shots (though all are deserving) Kit Harington, Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner
Absolutely No Chance (but she’s still great!): Natalie Dormer
Charles Dance and Peter Dinklage both deserve to be nominated, and I think chances are pretty big that they will be. Diana Rigg and Pedro Pascal also have pretty big chances. Not so sure about the supporting actresses, though I won’t be surprised if Emilia is nominated because popularity.
It’s a shame Alfie Allen wasn’t submitted this season, because he was terrific, but I guess he didn’t get enough screentime?
Maisie Williams seriously deserves to be nominated (i actually think she should/could win). Her peformances in the first and last episodes alone are brilliant (and she doesnt really say much in the final scene with the Hound). She is also still only 17 but manages to do more with just her eyes than most actors do with lines of dialogue
Dinklage will get nominated. Maisie should but wont.
If Emilia is nominated again that just shows you what a joke the Emmys are.
How the does guest vs lead vs supporting actor thing work? Pedro Pascal has more screen time and appeared in more episodes than Maisie Williams and Natalie Dormer, but is considered a guest…
Also it’s a shame that Nikolaj wasn’t nominated last year; Season Three was truly the season of Jaime Lannister.
As much as I love the show and all teh performances were great. I think Peter Dinklage is the only one with a real shot. Charles Dance is incredible but I think his work in previous seasons (especially the last one) was superior.
Maisie has been interesting this season but nothing she’s done has really blown me away. I think Pedro has a great chance as he really made the most of every scene he had. Diana Rigg, a bit like Charles Dance, was much better last season.
Also, how is Rory McCann not nominated this season? I think although Nikolaj has excelled as my favourite character Jaime and has been solid all season he was better/had more screentime/plot last season and Kit has been a lot better as Jon Snow this season but still not in the elite in terms of acting.
Don’t think any of the other actresses besides Maisie really did anything spectacular this season.
So in summary, Peter and Pedro have a great shot. Everyone else I’d be very surprised at.
Maisie, Rigg, Pascal, Dance and Dinklage should all really get it. Excellent performances by all.
How the does guest vs lead vs supporting actor thing work? Pedro Pascal has more screen time and appeared in more episodes than Maisie Williams and Natalie Dormer, but is considered a guest…
Anybody who’s a series regular is eligible only for the lead/supporting categories. A guest actor like Pascal can choose to submit in either the guest categories or the regular categories (assuming he meets a certain episode quota, which Pascal does); Pascal choose to go for guest, since he’s a guest star and he has a better chance of winning.
There was some grumbling a few years ago with John Lithgow submitted for (and won) Guest Actor for the fourth season of “Dexter”, as even though he was not a series regular, he had probably the second- or third-most screentime of any character that season and a lot of people thought he should have had to submit as a supporting actor.
Lots of truth here. I doubt (sadly) that Dance will be nominated; can’t think of anyone more deserving…that is, other than Maisie. Pedro may have a shot at a nomination because he has done a great job of being “visible.” Lena’s best chance comes next season, I think.
Tyrion Pimpslap Posted July 7, 2014 at 4:45 pm
I’m not sure of the specifics, but I believe if you aren’t in the main cast(opening credits) then you are a guest actor. And yes, it was a crime that Nicolaj wasn’t nominated last year, especially considering who won.
The sad thing is that with so many characters getting so little screen time very few actors have a legitimate shot at Emmy nominations, much less wins. Many strong performances will continue to be overlooked… and honestly maybe they should be when compared to shows where the actors have 30 minutes of quality screen time per episode, not per season.
Getting nominated/winning Emmys would be nice for the show and actors. Honestly though, I was more worried about it after the first season when we were all still just hoping the ratings would be good enough to keep the show going. I felt the Emmys may have given credibility to the show in some people’s eyes. However, at this point the series is such a phenomenon that the Emmys won’t affect it either way.
Lena deserves it AS ALWAYS for being amazing but I doubt she’ll get it. I think she has a better shot next year, I’m sure she’ll have some great material!
Of course Pedro and Rigg better get theirs. Fingers crossed!
I favor Dinklage over Dance for supporting actor. I mean Dance is good but Tyrion is such a great character… it’s really hard to compete.
Again, why is Natalie Dormer in there at first place? After Purple Wedding and her scene with Tommen, basically nothing else is memorable about her acting. Gwendoline Christie deserves that place. Especially with last episode fight. It’s rare to ge recognition from fighting scene.
Also despite how much I love Nikolaj, he had best material in season 3. I think his highlight for season 4 is Oathkeeper. Rory for me is the one who deserves Supporting actor the most. How can you not tear up at his last begging for mercy scene?
But of course we will have wic.net award and I usually agree with that award more than any award that related to Game of Thrones :)
Ever since the Wire was snubbed five years in a row, I stopped caring about the Emmy’s. You should too.
Almost a Knight: Again, why is Natalie Dormer in there at first place?
I’m certainly no expert but as others have pointed out in these threads in the past an actor/actress can submit themselves for nomination. There is a submission fee that I believe the show pays for their own submissions. Anyone the show doesn’t submit can pay the fee and submit themselves. Perhaps she submitted herself. Would explain the long odds.
Almost a Knight: But of course we will have wic.net award and I usually agree with that award more than any award that related to Game of Thrones :)
I agree, perhaps because they are voted on exclusively by GoT fans.
Yes. To both Pedro Pascal and Peter Dinklage. Those two had scenes that are simply burnt in my memory. In fact, my favorite scene for both is one they shared: in Tyrion’s cell. I will riot if either of them doesn’t
I seriously think Sophie should be in with a shout. Her character has defo changed the most and Sophie has had to do some pretty challenging scenes and play pretty much many different sides of the one character. And her silent acting was incredible!! That whole scene where she has to watch the dwarves making fun of her dead brother the look on face is insane. And wen she lies about what happened to her aunt lysa and looks up at Petyr you know exactly what she’s thinking.completely under appreciated actress and character who deserve more attention from the got fan base.
Personally I don’t see the hype around Arya I mean its been the same thing happening with her for a lot of seasons now. On the road finds a guy they teach her something she gradually becomes more and more messed up and repeat. And this “death stare” that everyone is on about I think yes was very well done considering her age and experience but didn’t really stand out to me as a emmy moment. Sorry.
This! I love both Maisie and Sophie’s performances, yet since s2 IMO Sophie has delivered extremely well, playing so many different layers, and for someone so young (she was still 17 for s4, remember) that is incredible. I don’t understand why people discredit her performance bc of her character.
Actors and Actresses nominate themselves for Emmy consideration. Gwendoline did not nominate herself which is why she is not on the list
Charles Dance is awesome, but realistically speaking Peter D is the only actor from the show with a real chance here!
GOT is our fav show (thats why we’re here!) but there are just so many shows out there with so many actors in critics radars that I really doubt we are going to see more than 1 actor from GOT nominated, and Peter is the best GOT has to offer.
I love all the perfomances this season, but Kit in The Watchers Of The Wall, Two Swords,The Children was EPIC! I love the evolution of his Jon Snow since season one! He deserve it.
Fingers crossed, LUCK to all amazing cast! Ah, Pedro, bravo estuviste genial!
Dance! Dance! Dance! But he should have been submitted himself last 2 seasons. I wonder why he didn’t :(
Sophie Turner was brilliant, and whilst she won’t be nominated, she is deserving of one. She can play the naive, innocent girl then turn into Dark Sansa, transformation of the season for me. She has really made Sansa her own. Why not comment on her silent stare during the Purple Wedding? That ish made me emotional! I am aware that the Emmys favour established actors in favour of raw, youthful talent, why not change it up for once? It’s all become a bit predictable and formulaic.
I’d choose her over Maisie, but in an alternate universe they would be nominated over some of the adult actors who for me were average or
Charles Dance for me is due a nomination, he does so much with so little, and doesn’t need to rely on histrionics to make a scene more impactful. Dance FTW!
Pedro Pascal was brilliant, I hope he will be nominated as well
How come you deny the awesomness of Charkes Dance????? Give a chance to him, now of never!!!!!
The one that would make my week would be Maisie Williams. I’ve been thinking she’s deserved a nomination since season 2. She has been incredible for 4 years now, but especially from season 2 on.
Who cares how old she is? In this case, it helps her case, because it’s just so absurd that she’s THIS good, while dealing with such heavy material for a young girl.
We got three nominations last year, and this year is better.
I’m just going to throw my preferences out there. For the men: Nicolaj Coster-Waldau. For the ladies: I love them all, and as we all know the Ladies of GoT deliver in diamonds. I would have preferred Gwendoline be among the nominees, but I’ll root for Maisie Williams. I still can’t get over, “Something wrong with your leg boy?” That is just classic! As for guest starring, I’ll go with what’s up top. Both Pedro and Diana were excellent!
Peter, Pedro and Sophie got noms at the TFAs, not sure how relevant those awards are though.
I’m rooting for Charles Dance too besides Pedro and Sophie. He was probably the best performer of the show for these 4 seasons so far and he deserves recognition on his way out of the show.
I’m not sure Queen Of Thorns had enough to do this season to warrant a nomination for Diana Rigg. I think Indira Varma would’ve been a great choice for this category too imo.
Peter Dinklage because he played the great character which is well written with much more screentime than any other male character.
Charles Dance because he gave everything beyond anything his character could give.
I’m also rooting for Charles Dance besides Pedro and Sophie, he deserves recognition after 4 years of impeccable acting (the best out of anyone on the show probably) on his way out of the show.
Very interesting! All deserved nominations, not sure it’s an accurate depiction of the Emmy’s but their nominations for best drama are all on point.
Glad Sophie is getting some sort of award recognition.
I’m also rooting for Charles Dance besides Pedro and Sophie, he deserves recognition after 4 years of impeccable acting (the best out of anyone on the show probably) on his way out of the show.
Omg! I’m so happy Sophie’s getting some recognition. Thanks. :)
The Dragon Demands Posted July 7, 2014 at 9:35 pm
If Peter Dinklage doesn’t at least get a nomination for this season’s heavy work, I will be STUNNED.
Too much competition for multiple actors/actresses to be in the same categories.
I don’t think any of the women listed here had enough meaty scenes to justify a nomination. They did very well with what they were given…but Emilia Clarke had more to do in past seasons and with greater nuance (again this is the writing, not the actress). Arya didn’t get as much as in “Mhysa” when she totally flipped out.
…arguably this was one of Sansa’s best seasons, though in Season 3 she had more range. I’d welcome a Sophie Turner nomination, and her best stuff was in “Mockingbird”, but we need more than that.
Lena Headey?…she had more to do in “Blackwater” than this. Yes, Joffrey died…then they had her in “bitter but subdued” mode that entire time. She wasn’t fuming as much as she should. Only in her finale scene with Jaime did we see a hint of “crazed gloating Cersei” which is what she is in the books. They downplayed it far too much.
Of all three I suppose Turner deserves it most but otherwise they simply didn’t give them a lot. Same goes for Natalie Dormer (there just wasn’t a scene with a giant hearfelt confession or angry accusation or anything). This is the fault of the writers.
Meanwhile, I think Diana Rigg is a shoe-in for a Guest Actress nomination. I was disappointed she didn’t win last year, and think she has even better odds this year (the balance and range and multiple complex layers between snarking and joking about seducing her late husband to marry her, to suddenly shifting to dead serious that she “knows” Tyrion didn’t kill Joffrey but would never let “that beast” marry her granddaughter. In terms of just nominations, though, I feel even more strongly for this than I do Dinklage for Supporting Actor, given that the competition is lighter.
….Guest Actor is kind of a wild-card. We weren’t happy with some of the stuff earlier in the season with Pedro but I like many agree that his later stuff really nailed the book spirit (being sort of melancholy around Cersei, jocular at the Small Council, and then OMG his “Mockingbird” scene with Tyrion). So just mail out a video clip of his scene from the end of “Mockingbird”, yeah. I also think Pedro stands good chances of a Guest Actor nomination.
Best Supporting Actor: if Peter Dinklage doesn’t at least get nominated, for his strongest season yet, there’s no justice.
Best Supporting Actress: I actually do not feel that any one major actress got enough weighty scenes to justify a nomination. This was partially due to writing, but also partially just due to what point in the books they’re at.
Best Guest Actress: odds are strong that Dianna Rigg will once again be nominated (or should be).
Best Guest Actor: it would be nice if Pedro Pascal actually manages to get the nomination.
Loved Pedro and Nicolaj (and actually Kit was amazing this year). But after the Michelle Fairley miss last year (one of greatest performance ever on tv), I think the emmy’s are about safe choices and overall a joke.
They may not be relevant, but I bet the nominations make a lot more sense than Emmy nominations will. For starters, Emmys will no doubt again completely ignore ‘Hannibal’.
Annara Snow Posted July 7, 2014 at 10:07 pm
There’s also something called Gold Derby awards – I have no idea what kind of awards those are, I just discovered the article on Google. GoT got nominations for Best Drama Series, two for Best Drama Episode (“The Lion and the Rose”, “The Watchers on the Wall”), two each for Best Supporting Actor (Dinklage, Dance) and actress (Headey, Clarke), Best guest actor for Pascal and Best Guest actress for Rigg. http://www.goldderby.com/news/6750/gold-derby-tv-awards-orange-is-the-new-black-game-of-thrones-entertainment-news-24681357.html
Grynthaline: Omg! I’m so happy Sophie’s getting some recognition. Thanks. :)
Wow! TFA gets it right! I never heard of them but i like that they nominate Sophie (for that material in 4×8 i imagine) over a more obvious choice like Emilia. Realistically neither of the girls stand a chance this year but when it comes to best in a single episode surely Sophie should have better odds than Maisie (who had her best material so far in S2 imho) Emilia would be the obvious choice but she doesnt really deserve a nomination this year over any of the other 3 (not counting Natalie as she nominated herself)… Lena should get the nom for season 5 right?
It’s still a ridiculous injustice that the powers that be didn’t submit Rory McCann for supporting actor. He opened the season with an absolutely brilliant bang and ended it, with perhaps one of the most emotionally raw “deaths”. Add into that, his telling his story to Arya, he has had a great season.
That said, I do think it’s Maisie’s year. It was in season 3, too. The look on her face, from joy to utter horror, when she arrived at the Red Wedding, seeing the Stark banner men get slaughtered. Damn, the girl can work that expressive face! But alas, she was shut out.
I don’t put a lot of value on these awards. Seems like the Hollywood set has a billion award shows, but Maisie has been dynamic. The road trip from hell has been a helluva lot a fun and emotionally charged thanks to her and Rory.
The only reason I wouldn’t give a nod to Emilia is because I still think she is pretty weak. Sometimes I love her portrayal and other times, not so much.
Sophie has been fantastic, just wish we got more “meat” in her story line. Descending the stairs in black garb, black hair…I guess I just wanted the Alayne transition to be more of a struggle for Sansa. I get why it felt forced, it was. The writer’s cram a lot of goods in those last few episodes. Regardless, she has really sold Sansa. I look forward to see where GRRM takes the character in future books and how D&D will use the source material to expand on her growth.
Peter should be a lock. He’s been fantastic all season. His delivery of the line, “If you want justice, you’ve come to the wrong place.” is reason enough for me to think he deserves the nod, and win.
He can deliver goods with one line. He really is that good in this role.
Truth is…I will be thrilled with any nominations. SO many people had a great season. Hope to see some of it get recognized!
I don’t think Diana Rigg OR Pedro Pascal are guarantees…Diana Rigg has more of a chance b/c she was nominated before and is a recognizable name, though she did vanish before the season was halfway done, not to reappear. Pedro was a huge hit with GoT fans, and there are many, but there doesn’t seem to be a big crossover with GoT fans and Emmy voters yet, if ever – most probably don’t watch the show, just the submission episodes, and for political reasons they may steer clear of him to nominate a bunch of well-known actors instead (so they can bump shoulders with them at the after-parties).
Emilia Clarke has a better chance than Lena or Maisie. Not that this was a big year for Dany, or that Emilia was particularly great, or that Lena or Maisie weren’t amazing–it’s just that Emmy voters don’t care. She’s ‘Khaleesi,’ the Mother of Dragons, an upcoming blockbuster star and one of the two characters casual viewers seem to be familiar with.
Guys, don’t flip out if Peter is the only one nominated, and our favorites lose their spots to half-baked performances from mediocre, popular network shows…it’s the Emmys. Expect the worst and you’ll never be disappointed.
The Charming Charles Dance or the Emmys still remain popularity, power and politic. Period.
Can one of the admins un-spam-block my post (just the first one)? Thanks.
Pedro, Peter and Sophie are my top picks for this year.
Yeah, as usual, only Dinklage and Rigg, and they will not win. They should just consider Tyrion a main actor, that’s how they treat him after the number of lines, which is a lot different from the books. That would open other actors for the secondary category.
For Emmy purposes, Breaking Bad finished in Sept of 2013. Are they going to be up for Emmys when it’s announced on Thursday? I can’t really see anybody beating them out if they’re up for Emmys.
I will never understand the love that Maisie Williams gets in general, but particularly this season. Her line delivery is always forced, stale, and with little if any intonation. She plays a popular character, therefore people somehow think her performance is deeply nuanced. It was Rory McCann who carried all of their scenes, and it’s a damn shame he’s won’t be recognized at all.
I think it comes down to something as simple as a lot of people love her performance. Arya is a very popular character, I think Maisie does a terrific job bringing her to life. I feel the way you do about Maisie’s performance when it comes to Emilia. At times I love her portrayal, sometimes she leaves me cold. What you don’t see as nuanced, others do. It’s just differing opinions and nothing wrong with that.
Curtain Call gives Charles Dance many praise, I respect that, but god damn it, he deserves more than 1000 praises.
Great admirer of Maisie’s work but I think she was actually stronger in season 3 as the material gave her more chance to show range ( “I can be your family”, “Could you bring back a man without his head?” – those scenes just broke my heart).
I just don’t think her season 4 scenes have quite what it takes for serious Emmy consideration given that we know their conservatism and preference for contemporary drama as opposed to Sci-Fi/Fantasy and known stars acting styles.
I would have no complaints at all if Tatiana Maslany won the Emmy for Orphan Black, and I’d be satisfied enough if either Maisie or Sophie; and Diana Rigg got a nomination in the respective slots. As for the males, Peter Dinklage and Charles Dance both rocked of course, and Pedro was excellent in his brief stint.
Pretty please with Renly’s peach on top?
You forgot Alfie Allen. IMO he was the best actor this season.
Somebody said that “Breaking Bad” still qualifies for Emmy nominations this year although it has finished. I’ve never seen that show (and before anybody criticises me I have not been able to find anywhere to borrow the DVDs) so can’t judge. However, unless there is a “Breaking Bad” backlash, I think it will very likely win the awards again.
Of the people in “Game of Thrones” I think Pedro Pascal and Peter Dinklage have the best chances of winning an award. Now, they were good but they are also US citizens and the American establishment does like to congratulate its own (that’s not meant as a nasty statement by the way). Of people who were not nominated who haven’t been mentioned yet, I think Jack Gleeson perhaps deserved some sort of recognition, but then he was only in two episodes this year. He did very well in conveying the loathsome character that was Joffrey though, even if he didn’t look exactly like book Joffrey.
I think the most likely scenario would be Dinklage and Headey getting nominated. However, if it was my choice I would actually nominate Kit, he really impressed me this season.
For Emmy purposes, Breaking Bad finished in Sept of 2013.Are they going to be up for Emmys when it’s announced on Thursday?I can’t really see anybody beating them out if they’re up for Emmys.
Sorry I hadn’t noticed your comment when I made mine. To some extent I duplicated what you had said.
You know emmy voters are everyday people. Its not some secret service.
