Kit Harington on Jon Snow’s meeting with a King, and Melisandre’s intentions 

\'Game Of Thrones\': Kit Harington On Jon Snow Meeting A King & His Season 5 Melisandre Prediction

The world of Kit Harington’s Jon Snow greatly expanded in the “Game of Thrones” Season 4 finale.

When King Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) and Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) led an army North, saving the men of the Night’s Watch (and all of Westeros) from the Wildling attack, Jon Snow’s storyline expanded. But, after spending so many seasons with a very separate arc, finally working with actors from another major “GoT” storyline took a moment to get used to.

“It was really f***ing weird, actually — Stephen and Carice [van Houten, Melisandre] and Liam just being there on set in Episode 10 and having this kind of presence from another part of the show invade our part,” Kit told

. “I’ve been so separate for the rest of the story for so long. And them too. And so to be working together was quite exciting for all of us.”

In the finale, Jon Snow did not kneel to King Stannis (though he did call him “your grace”), and Kit said that moment, and another one that followed, really exemplify who Jon is now.

“I’ve been a huge fan of all of their works, but especially Stephen’s, so for Jon to be butting heads with Stannis was — it’s a really interesting power play moment. You haven’t seen Jon come across a king before, and it’s interesting to see how he deals with it,” Kit said. “[He has an interesting line after] he’s asked by Tormund, ‘Is that your King?’ And he says to Tormund, ‘I don’t have a King,’ and I think that’s Jon through and through. He’s part of the Night’s Watch and he’ll refer to Stannis as, ‘your grace,’ but he’s a brother of the Night’s Watch. He isn’t led by anyone.”

Asked how excited he is for Season 5, where he’ll get to work more with the trio of actors, Kit said he expects to see more scenes with Carice’s Melisandre.

“Yeah… and he’s suddenly confronted with a new redhead as well. He’s definitely got a type, Jon. He likes his redheads,” Kit joked. “And there’s a great moment where Jon and Melisandre lock eyes over a fire and you know that that’s gonna be a big part of Season 5 – like how they interact, what their storyline is. She’s, for some reason, obsessed with bastard-born children – high-born children — and Jon doesn’t come any higher born or bastard [born], so I think there’s going to be a relationship there.”

Now, a little something to speculate about… Jon Snow’s mother remains a mystery on the show.

Melisandre seemed to have some particular insight into Gendry’s parentage in Season 3, knowing he was the late King Robert Baratheon’s son. Could she have insight into Jon’s?

We shared that speculative thought with Season 4 finale director Alex Graves (who is taking Season 5 off), when we spoke to him about the big episode. But, he reminded us that Melisandre is a pretty good trickster.

“I think also that you forget that she actually is human and some of it is parlor trick stuff and gossip, and so I don’t know how much she really knows at the end of the day,” he said. “She does use dust to make the fire burst. It isn’t actually magic.”

“Game of Thrones” returns for its fifth season in 2015 on HBO. Kit Harington can be seen in three films in 2015 — “Seventh Son,” “Testament of Youth,” and the recently completed spy movie, “Spooks: The Greater Good.”
