SweetPea2007 picked Naveen's Mother:
Queen Grimmhilde
Lady Tremaine
Mother Gothel

1.Do not know much about her and 2. either she left Naveen's raising up to servants and that is why he is so chauvinistic and a spoiled brat or she raised him like that herself...at least she cut him off when he became to hard to handle, but that should have been done sooner and he should have been taught better manners and proper skills....

I love the other mothers! I don't like Fa Li as much...she kind of tried to force Mulan into her own little world; to become a "perfect" bride. Ugh...

Jayden-G picked Fa Li:
She seems extremely passive when it comes to making family decisions, which is never a good thing. She only cared about bringing pride into the family, and it seemed like she had no authority in the family. Passive mothers are one of the worst types

^That was the norm, and i would hardly call her passive... the dad was the head of the house, she supported him, thats one of the best types, i cant believe people think a loving mom like her is worse then ariel or naveens mom..

I hate to pick Ariel, I actually don't think she was a bad mother, I just think she sould've listen more and tell her daughter the truth. Maybe if she'd been honest Melody would've understand that a crazy sea witch was after her and that she couldn't go into the ocean... I think she was repeating some of her father's mistakes, but she's still a good mother and everything she did, she did out of love...

Never seen the Little Mermaid sequel, so I can't comment on Ariel.
Agree with SweetPea2007. Naveen said my mother has the servants read this to me every night, that should have been her doing that.
Elinor would be nest for not listening to Merida.

KataraLover picked Fa Li:
"HONOR! HONOR! HONOR! DO THIS! DO THIS! ACT LIKE THIS! ACT LIKE THIS! ACT LIKE A LITTLE PUPPET AND DO WHAT EVERYONE SAYS AND KEEP YOUR FEELINGS OUT OF IT". I realize the time period but still. I mean to her it seems like having pride and honor in her family was more important to her than her daughter. I know she loves Mulan but I feel like both her and Fa Zu made her feel like Mulan was a mistake and that she wasn't even a person, she was treated like a cattle being traded for the advancement in men, again I realize the time period. Plus when Fa Zu yells at her and again treats her like some kind of wind up doll that was suppose to just be pretty and silent and perform tricks when told to do so and Mulan runs out she doesn't try to go and comfort her.

My next choice would be Naveen's mother for the reasons stated by SweetPea2007. Also unlike most I actually think Ariel is a good mother. I'm not being biased because I actually use to think she was a terrible mother but now I see a different light, same with parents like Triton, Lady and Tramp, and Simba. Besides I think Ariel had very valid reasons for what she did.

SweetPea2007 picked Naveen's Mother:
KataraLover not only a different time period but a different culture...I would like to hear from anyone who is also Asians point of view and if they view her as a bad mother...in the asian culture especially then from what I have heard girls were not important or valued, but boys...boys were priceless and were what everyone wanted....

I agree with you on Ariel though....She basically got what she dished out to her own father and had a hard time dealing...does not make her a bad mom, no it makes her human.......all parents make mistakes but what Ariel did was out of love not out of spite or selfishness...Melody did not understand her mother, does that make her a bad daughter? no that makes her a self-absorbed teen....

KataraLover picked Fa Li:
Well technically Melody isn't a teenager, she's only 12. Besides it's natural that Ariel would be so overprotective of Melody since she almost died when she was a baby and Ariel was helpless in that situation. Plus I think the reason she didn't tell Melody the truth was because she wanted to protect Melody from going through life in fear and be paranoid, she wanted her to have a normal and happy childhood. Parents all will make mistakes but that doesn't make them bad parents, it means they're human.

As for the part about Asian culture lets see them go through life without women and see how far they're life and population will go and survive.

Swanpride picked Ariel:
I'm sorry, but she is a terrible mother. Starting with attacking Not-Ursula while she has Baby-Melody in her arms (she could neither know that the beam wouldn't hit Melody herself, not trust that Eric would be able to catch Melody before something happens to her), over building a giant wall around the castle instead of, you know, explaining to Melody in what kind of danger she is, and then not even noticing that her daughter is swimming around in the castle all the time (never mind that Not-Ursula could perhaps had the power to come to land - Ursula could). Forcing her daughter to participate in a birthday party with other children who tease her, instead of doing something Melody would like isn't exactly motherly, either. It's Melody's birthday after all, she should spend the day how she likes it.

She's always forcing Mulan to be the best and to impress her family. She's forcing her to be someone who she isn't just to bring the family honour.

Poor Fa li...she only wants the daughter to fit in. That's not a bad thing to wish for your child.

I agree with KataraLover on Ariel, I think Ariel was a good mother, she was just very concerned about Melody which is understandable given the circumstances. Or Fa Li or Naveen's mother.

fiina picked Naveen's Mother:
I agree with Swanpride, it's not that Fa Li was forcing Mulan to be perfect doll I don't even think she wanted that at first place. It's Chinese culture which wants that and her life would have been completely horrible if she couldn't fit in or bring honor to herself and family. Is it wrong to want best for her child? That honor thing sounds quite weird to us but you don't really seem to understand how big deal it really was. It was REALLY BIG deal. And to think how girls weren't indeed wished to born I think Mulan had extraordinary loving family who also shows it. Fa Li was about go after Mulan when she ran away to cry but decided to leave her alone for a while, I'm sure she would have spoke to her later as she got change. Also that if she had left after her she'd had shown disrespect to her husband. And she was the one who wanted Fa Zhou to go get Mulan back for fear she could die. Honestly, I don't think at that time many would worry about that the most, girls were kind of "died" to their old families anyway as they got married because they were then part of husband's family. I think it shows her great love to Mulan as she worried about her life, she didn't say "go after her she can shame our family" at that moment she clearly cared more about Mulan herself than honor, like she always had. She wanted honor to Mulan because it was best for her and I think Mulan knew this too.

I chose Naveen's mother just because I don't know anything about her, except she ordered servants read "the frog prince" to child Naveen. I think all the rest mother are good.(including her)

She hided from Melody the truth about herself, it's like she lied to her. And she behaved like an hyppocrite, she forbade her daughter to know about the world of Atlantica, like she was forbidden to know about the human world by her own father.

I can't think of an answer yet, I think none of the moms are horrible mothers. But I personally do t get why people think Fa Li is some kind of Devil. Yes she was being a bit carried away in honor and everything but she still loved Mulan and cared for her. And this is part of the culture and time period, and like flina said, Fa Li more about Mulan, not honor.

I also think Ariel wasn't a horrible mother, yes she made some mistakes but she was trying to protect Melody and let her live a normal life. I agree with KataraLover on that.

shanyuisboss, I don't get that Fa Li hate either that's why I put some of my thoughts here. I could go on a lot more how good mother she is. I don't see any of these bad mother so I chose one which I can't judge for lack screentime, like Naveen's and Aurora's mother. They don't show much about Fa Li either so where people get she's so horrible?

girlygirlspwn picked Ariel:
agreed with people, how is li bad?? she was very loving. she wasnt pressuring mulan at all, it was mulan who pressured herself. also, moms today COMPLETELY pressure their girls to be overachievers in shcool, get into the best colleges, ge outstanding grades, become super career women who can juggle it all, and this is seen as totallynormal to us but i bet you in the future people will be disgusted that parents now push their kids so hard to be perfect little career superstars to not shame the family or themselves, how exactly is this any different? fa li as actually more caring about mulan then what culture said, i don get where you guys think she cared so much. i havent seen the movie in a long time but i dont remember her saying any such thing.

i think ariel was a huge hypocrite and really acted out of character. i cant believe you guys who criticize triton are defending ariel for doing THE EXACT SAME THINGS he did.

SweetPea2007 picked Naveen's Mother:
girlygirlspwn I personally thought Triton was a great Dad except for giving into his spoiled daughter after all the trouble she caused...Ariel found out the hard way that she acted horrible and should have treated her father better....I do not think she was a bad mom (clueless and not very stern but not bad)....
"moms today COMPLETELY pressure their girls to be overachievers in shcool..." Um no they don't all act like that...I am a Mom and I encourage my daughters to try their best and I do not pressure them or force things on them....
