Seeing a the live-action Cinderella, which is a traditional remake, was a breath of fresh air and I'd go so far as to say it was even groundbreaking.

I keep hearing wonderful things about Cinderella, from others who are sick of the 'edgy' stuff, so I'm actually looking forward to seeing it soon. Thanks to YA books and Maleficent and such I stopped looking forward to retellings because they've now always got an unsympathetic heroine or totally change the princess's personality for the worse.

If they were like this, sure. Maleficent-types can go away for good. I'm hoping Cinderella does very well, so much that Disney sees its success over however well Maleficent did at the box office and takes notes.

I don't mind either one, actually. But I'm certain that I won't like Sophia Coppola's version of TLM. If she sticks to the traditional ending, I'm not going to like the movie.

^ I'm definitely not going to like it if they have the mermaid die but it's actually not going to be a remake of the Disney movie. It's just going t be it's own thing and isn't even being produced by Disney.

I wish that Sleeping Beauty would be remade traditionally. But then, of course, Maleficent would have had to never exist.

@KataraLover: Really? Well, one can hope that that movie ( with its abysmal ending) is not tied to Disney in any way.

I don't mind the edgy remakes, in fact I'd say I enjoy them in general, but I really loved Cinderella so I'm hoping for more like it in the future. I'm worried about the live action Beauty and the Beast. I heard the talking furniture is going to be CGI and I'm not sure how I feel about that...

^^^ Ew. That sounds worse than the computer generated mice in 2015 Cinderella. Makes me wonder if the Beast will be computer generated, too. If so... not very exciting.

^ I know. But whatever they do I think I'll be disappointed because I love Jean Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast that was made in the 1940s so much. It's truly a triumph of cinema, and nothing Disney does will be able to live up to it imo.

Oh. Wait. Isn't that the black and white French version? I thought it was cool that Belle's evil paramour took on the Beast's features as he died. That was so weird and cool at the same time.

The last Beauty and The Beast movie I saw was also French. I think it was 2014's La Belle et la Bete. Now, if Disney did the CGI for the Beast the way they did it here in this movie--- it would be tolerable.
