For me, personally, this song became DE's trademark. Someone once a dit 'If Stefan is Elena's harbor, then Damon is her ocean. Ships are sûr, sans danger in a harbor, but that's not why they were built' The way I interpret the song, is it's about jumping into the unknown and that can be scary. The ocean can be dangerous, can't be tamed, it's not safe. So I'm eagerly waiting for Elena to leave her sûr, sans danger harbor and jump into the ocean.
