But there is nothing anyone can do or say short of inventing a time machine in which I could travel back and hear that actual conversation back in series two that will convince me that this what they had in mind for three years. There is nothing that will make me forgive them for killing off Arthur before he fulfills his destiny, rendering the entire 5-year run of the show POINTLESS. 2. "Merlin's" epitaph should read: "Opportunities thrown away with both hands." Not wasted. THROWN AWAY.

HMGwen Sounds like Julian Murphy was doing damage control press because of the heat he's been getting for the finale of the series. I agree; it was crap. The only good thing was Morgana FINALLY paid the ultimate price for her atrocities. Merlin may think he was responsible for Morgana's bad turn, but she made the choice to go to the dark side and inflict cruelty on people who didn't deserve it, especially Gwen. (Even the way Morgana went out was low rent - stabbed like a common criminal.) I wanted Arthur to survive, go back to Gwen and Camelot and rule together starting the Golden Age - with a Pendragon heir (or heiress) in the cradle.

Pretty much these are the reasons that the cast didn’t want to do more, if they did what you had mention then maybe they would have. But alas Julian Murphy is an ass and he says that it was planned but I don’t think it was. All he cared about was his sick fantasies about Merthur. I don’t have issues with gay people, but my issue is when you have two people who are clearly straight, one of them is happily married and you make the sickest comments degrading the characters, especially Gwen. People may see what they will in the A/M relationship, but the fact is that Arthur has said multiple times that he loves Gwen, he was willing to leave Camelot. Both Arthur and Merlin have referred to each other as ‘friend’. It’s one thing to ship it knowing its not ‘canon’ but then to use Julian’s sexist comments as proof that A/M is canon is just….. I have no words for it. Clearly they have no idea how sick his comments were to women. And what makes it worse is a lot of these fans are women and they think that it is okay to make such comments. They clearly have mental issues and self image issues (I’m serious) if they can’t see how wrong his comments were. If they don’t know what a true homosexual relationship is and what a heterosexual relationship is. They may say that they do know, but I doubt it. And this is why the show was not more successful because a huge amount of the audience was watching the show for the reasons you brilliantly stated. They completely messed up the show and delivered something else entirely then what they promised from day one. All so that they could cater to one loud, yet small section of the whole viewing audience. And this section should be ashamed of themselves because at the end of the day the reason we didn’t get what you stated is because Julian decided to show the ‘love’ story between two men. People say that the reason that the show was a success is because of Arthur and Merlin and their friendship, this is partly true. But for me the reason I watched the show was because of all the characters and to see how they would do their own twist on the legends. I wanted to see them all grow and become the people they are known in the legends, I wanted to see how the arrogant Prince became the Once & Future King, how Gwen, the servant and blacksmith daughter would capture the heart of the prince and become Queen. I wanted to see how the man servant to the King would became the greatest wizard to ever walk the earth and how the once caring Lady Morgana would become Camelot’s greatest enemy. I wanted to see the golden age and how Arthur would bring together the five kingdoms and all I learnt in the end was that none of this matter, it was just a ‘love’ story between two men.

lilyjane820 after season 5 the fandom was like camlann battlefield -- death bodies everywhere, maybe julian bastard got scared and tried to say something sweet to soothe our broken hearts. he did say one thing truth-- angel is amazing , but arthur's death will always look stupid , painfully unnecessary. one episope to ruined them all LOL. i can't descripted how bitter and angry about the ending . for an example, Les miserable make you cry hard, but after that you will felt satified because it's a well told story , and it worth it. but it's not the same case with merlin. i don't know whether i should laugh or cry!!!!!

It’s a story of friendship, it’s both very funny but very touching and very real. And to go from two characters who in many ways in the first series began hating each other to two characters who profoundly respect and care about each other is a great journey. Those simple journeys are always the best, and the heart of the program is not dragons and swords and myths and legends, it’s that story, that friendship. Bonne-Bell Oh for sure. He had an axe to grind when he was doing that dvd commentary. The dude was fired and had his cash cow taken away from him and his last act of revenge was that unprofessional misogynistic crap he spewed. And now after being told off, he's backtracking and trying to make nice. Probably to salvage any kind of career that he might still have. And lol@ at him thinking that, that ending scene with Merlin walking around old and ragged was uplifting. He totally lost the point of his show and the Arthurian legends for that matter.
