Do toi think the newer generation of otaku prefer the dub over the sub?

That's a good question, but I wouldn't really generalise that younger ones watch dubs over subs. I think it all depends on personal taste rather than how long toi have been watching anime. For me, there are certain anime's that I must watch in Japanese like Hell Girl, Vampire Knight and Tokyo Mew Mew. And there are some that I just prefer in english, like Death Note for example. In my opinion, if I like the voices in Jap, I'll watch the subs, and if I like the voices in eng, I'll watch the dubs. (and sometimes if I'm lazy I'll watch the dubs cos I can't be bothered lire subs XD)
But for my absolute fave animé Naruto, I watch both subs and dubs because I'm a huge fan of the series!
So yeah, I probably rambled there... but I don't necessarily think that the younger generation gravitates towards the dubs. It's all just about personal preference, no matter what the age is ^^

I like Subs plus then Dubs. Compared to Subs, Dubs just sound awful. That and I like listening to Japanese.

i mean if there aren't any dubs for a certain animé i'll watch the sub
but if i really end up liking that series, i'll watch both dub and sub
i just don't like lire the subs kuz i usually like only watching it so i guess i like dubs plus unless the voice actors suck

I prefer subs because sometimes when they dubbed an animé in English ou any other languages except for Japanese of course, I think that their voices are not appropriate for the characters unlike in their original voices which I think really Suits – Avocats sur Mesure them.

No, I don't think so.

I just became a so-called "otaku" in February, and I prefer subs over dubs anyday. It just sounds more.... natural. And I'm sure a lot of people agree.

well for me most of the time its dubs. some anime's like code geass and elfin lied and spice and loup have great sub vioces. but when its dubbed, well it sucked. especially spice and wolf. the guy voice was great but holo's voice sucked. then dubs, well i usually watch a animé in english first cuz its easier to follow. plus i hate lire subtitles. but with Inuyasha i enjoyed the vioce actors. it was great. then the sub version. well it was good to except for sesshomaru. i didnt really like his too much. too deep. same with ranma 1/2. dubs were great too! and after ep 64 ranma got replaced par the same person who voiced inuyasha! i like spice and wolfs too. just i think the japanese version is better. but i watch the english one most of the time. like i said, its annoying to read subtitles. this is just my opinion.

If toi mean toi start with dubs that is a no brainer , but no dubs suck.

I, myself, am from the new generation and i prefer subs. i also like seeing the dubs (just out of curiosity) but i've always preferred subs

I watch what I can of the dubbed version of an animé ( if it was dubbed), and then re-watch it with sub.
the reason why I do it is because, I usually have to continuously pause to read what they're saying, but I also get to hear the original voice.

The way I see it, if toi believe toi are an otaku, par definition toi would want to immerse yourself into the culture and listen to the actual Japanese audio (watching subbed), and maybe even go so far as to learn Japanese phrases and the language. Also, par definition, toi would be aware that despite Americans using the word "otaku" in terms of themselves as a geek factor, "otaku" is actually quite vulgar and derogatory within Japanese society.

I generally watch subbed now, but there are some decent dubs out there: Trigun, Full Metal Panic, Hellsing, The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, Martian Successor Nadesico. And sad to say, those were the titles my college Friends showed me to expose me to plus animé and eventually wean me off of dubs and transition me onto Japanese audio with English text (subbed). Especially when there are some really good animé titles out there, but the English dub is absolutely terrible. I wouldn't have gotten through watching l’amour Hina dubbed and I would have missed out on a really good series. Also, what my Friends did to me, I eventually did to my younger brothers, who barely touched a book. They now watch animé titles I haven't even gotten around to yet.... subbed! They're actually reading... scarier still, my brother started chant one ou two of the opening Naruto songs just par ear.

I think it depends on which one they watch first. If they watched the dub of something and then the sub, they may prefer the dub, because that's the first one they saw and that's the voicing thye see as the 'proper' voicing.
Hellsing and Howl's Moving château are the dubs I think are best.
Of course though, that's not true in all cases, just most I have seen.
