Falling. I was falling. All I could see was darkness. Nothing else. Just darkness. No, I wasn’t falling.
I was floating. Floating through space, stars suddenly appearing. Fat green ones and bright reds, along with the hues yellow and purple inbetween. I gazed in wonder. It was so beautiful. I never want to leave here.
“Mary Shelton, get up right this instant!” I woke up, the alarm clock screaming par my ear.
“Elizabeth!” my mother yelled. She was obviously ticked.
“Rrg…” I mumbled. I’m up, I just-“ I stopped short when a peculiar sight caught my eye. A guy. A hot guy. A super-hot guy. Standing in my yard.
    “Elizabeth!”
“Coming!” I slid a pair of jeans on and a soft, cream colored blouse, complete with matching tennis shoes.
“Hello,” I whipped around, almost bumping into the guy that was standing in my yard, who is now standing in my bedroom.
“Who… who the heck are you?”
“Your one true love. Now, I vanish,”There was a swirl of black dust, almost like a mini tornado, and he was gone. Just like that.
    “Mary!” My mother screamed.
“I’m coming!” I yelled back. I made my way downstairs to an awaiting breakfast of eggs, pancakes, and bacon, as well as pain grillé smothered with home-made preserves and loads of butter.
Yet ANOTHER figment of my imagination. I thought as I gobbled down my ‘Calories for the Cure’ breakfast. I’m 17, and my only boyfriend is now just particles floating in the Supernatural wind. How poetic. If only it was the story if my life. I went outside for a walk, when I saw Supernaturally-super-hot-figment-of-my-imagination-guy sitting on the curb at the end of the walk. He obviously had muscles, noted par his tight, button-down chemise that hugged his biceps. He looked sharp, tantalizing.
“Hello, my lovely,” he said, standing up and pulling out a blood-red rose. He tucked it into my long, wavy, choppy, all-of-the-above hair.
“Who are you?” I asked, blood rushing to my cheeks.I barely know him, and I’m already jouer la comédie like he’s my biggest crush ou something! ‘He may just be toi biggest crush. A voice a dit in the back of my head, which I quickly hushed up.
“I already told toi that. I am your one true love,” he explained, a hideous grin appearing at the sides of his mouth.
Gosh, what is with this guy? I thought.
“Listen, I have to go to sch-“ Suddenly his eyes went a dark, midnight sky color, and he grabbed me, dipping me as though this was all some kind of mad, possessed tango lesson. He kisses me on the tip of the nose, smiling. His mouth strolls down through my hair, over the side of my head and stops at my ear. I barely hear him whisper “No toi don’t. It’s Saturday. Come with me.”
He then wraps his arms even tighter around me-if that’s even possible- and we both vanish into clouds of smoke, one black, and one a golden-green hue.
“HOLY CRAP!!” I try to yell, but no sound is heard except a ghostly whisper. A voice, somewhat like supernatural-super-hot-guy’s here, tells me, “You have been chosen. Do not deny his presence. toi are Him. He is You. l’amour Him. Let Him l’amour You.” My blue eyes go wide as he drops us off at some aléatoire desert that screams, ‘Hey, Welcome to Vegas!’
“Well, that was fun, wasn’t it?” He asks, still holding onto me.
“I don’t know what toi call fun, but that doesn’t fall into my fun category,” I retorted, not thinking much of the disembodied voice I’d just heard. “Where are we, anyway?”
“We’re anywhere toi want us to be, darling,” he says with an easy smile.” But, most people call it Las Vegas.”
“Why the heck are we in Vegas?! It’s dusty, and sandy. And ew,” I said, blowing my hair off my face, pushing him away and dusting myself off. “Ugh! My good clothes!” He was laughing. Laughing! What is with this guy? He says he loves me, then shoots up into the sky, good looks and all. His perfect tan skin, not too dark, his muscle-y arms, and his hair. Oh, his mid-neck length, raven black hair, not too long, nor too short. It was like he came right out of my dreams.
We walked awhile in silence (who knows where to), then I suddenly stopped.
“If you’re going to take me captive, I want to know your name. And don’t give me any of that ‘It’s whatever toi want it to be’ crap.”
    “But it’s true,” he replies.
“Oh, so, if I call toi Mr. Mambe Pambe Wiffle Corten Warts, you’d be okay with it?”
He sighed. “Okay, I can’t take this anymore. Hey, guys, the joke’s over! Can’t do this anymore! She asked me my name!” He yelled out to the sky, as if anyone could hear us out here in the middle of the desert. “By the way, it’s Levi,” the last sentence was a dit in a hushed tone, as if it was only for me to hear.
“Levi? What the heck is a name like that?” I say, raising an eyebrow.
“It’s my name, and I’m proud of it,” he says, moving closer to me and I, in response, keep moving backwards.
“Whoah, startin’ to creep me out here,” I say, bumping into him when he suddenly appears behind me. I start running, forwards, and yelp in surprise when he tackles me and pins me down. I start struggling under him, trying to break his grip on my wrists, trying to shake his weight off me.
“Hey! Get off me! Help!” I holler as he pins my wrists on either side of my head.
“Shut the heck up ou I’ll make it worse!” He whispers harshly into my ear. “Yo, guys, it’s not a joke anymore! The bet’s off! Come on!”
Then, suddenly, I see three guys (super-hot like Levi here) appear out of the brush that we’d just passed a few minutes ago.
“What toi got there, Leevs?” the first one says. “Looks pretty hot to me.”
“Shut up, Eathan, she doesn’t know what’s real,” Levi says, still on haut, retour au début of me. Now, seing these three other guys, I’m kind of glad he’s in between me and them.
“I-I’m innocent… please... leave me alone!” I plead, wriggling and screaming.
“Shuddup! Guys, help here, she’s starting to-“ Levi cut off what he was saying as I break loose of his grip aand ru away. I forget about the three other guys, the idiot that I am, and soon I’m in an SUV, Eathan in the front, with Levi driving and the other two holding my wrists and commenting on how good I look.
“Dang, she’s hot. Can I have her? I’ll be gentle,” the blondie on my right says, winking at me. I shiver inside, trying not to think what he’ll be ‘gentle’ about.
No, Jace. I found, her, I get her,” the brown-haired one on my left says, toying with my collier before letting his hand glide down my side. “You’re real pretty,” he grins at me, and I shudder again.
“Shut up, both of you! Chris, get your hands off her, before I pull over and beat you,” Levi says, jouer la comédie as if Chris was his child. Chris crossed his arms over his chest and mumbled something. “Listen here, Blondie,” Levi tells me from the front seat. “We’re going to my house. It’s in the woods. toi don’t fight, toi don’t scream, everything’ll okay,” I start shaking, tears running down my burning cheeks.
“I… I just want to go h-home…”I say, sobbing, seemingly against my will. Levi pulls over.
“Well, too bad. If it’s any consolation, we’re not going to hurt you, right guys?” he asks, putting a really big emphasis on the last few words, making me feel even plus scared. ‘He lures me in with his hotness, then ‘feeds’ me to his friends, and to make sure I shut up, kills me. Great. Nothing ever goes right for me.’
“Aww, c’mon, Leevs. Just because toi found her doesn’t mean youcan keep her all toi yourself,” the one named Jace says, now fiddling with my sleeve. “What type of fabric is this?”
I snort, my sarcasm breaking through my mur of tears.”Great, now I’m trapped in a van with a bunch of gay guys.”
“Hey, Jace a dit it, not me! And we’re not gay!” Chris yells, slapping me in the face, causing me to fall into Jace’ lap, much to his pleasure and my dismay before Levi butts in again.
“Knock. It. Off. Leave her alone!” he yells, shoving Eathan into the back and pulling me up t the front. The guys moan, and I shake violently. Levi frowns and starts driving faster.
“I’m really sorry,” a voice inside of my head tells me. I jerk my head up.
“What the heck!?” I say, looking around, only to find Levi staring at me with sad eyes. “Okaaay…” I say, looking out the tinted window.
“Don’t worry, Jace won’t hurt you. But I have no promises for Chris. He just likes to play when it comes to food.” He says casually.
“F-f-food?” I ask hesitantly. images of different Les Experts episodes flash before my eyes.
“Oh, no, not the nourriture you’re thinking. We’re not cannibals!” he réponses quickly, as if he had read my exact thoughts.
    “Then what do toi mean?”
“It’s a little complicated. Here, we’re at the house. Now, if toi promise not to run away once I unlock the doors, then I’ll only make Eathan watch you. Deal?” he says, in such a casual way toi wouldn’t think he’s discussing who’s on guard duty with his hostage. I nod my head and carefully use my shaking hand to open my door. I hand my head and walk toward the house while Levi opens the door.

I still l’amour you, and I always will.

The words witten over three years ago. Does she know that I kept only this piece of the original letter? That lire it still makes me remember every other part? That I sometimes wonder if it's still even true?

I wouldn't say I'd blame her if she had moved on. She had every right. But I never had.

I flinch as I remember what I told Jason.

"Dude, toi were gone for, like, a day. Where were you? It's a good thing I covered for you, man. Here are your assignments and whatever. I went to Professor Taylor myself. "Patterns of social behaviour" ou something....

I see lotsa stuffs on TV. Like how big kids have to look out for the littler kids. And how kids always have mommies and daddies.

I don't have a daddy. Mommy never says why, but I think she doesn't want me to ask. So I don't.

I notice a lot plus than she thinks I do. Like how whenever she sees a violet (I asked her what it was called) she smiles a little. Like it reminds her of something. I know she likes them because she has some of them framed in my room.

I also see how she always ignores everyone but the people she's talking to and me.

And she always knows when Jamie and me play spies...

I wonder, sometimes, if she ever thinks of me.

If she knows that I kept only one picture of her. Anything else was just too painful. In the picture, she doesn't know I am taking it until the camera flash goes off. She has been sitting at the bureau in her old bedroom, and she is half-smiling.

**************************************************

I walk up to her, not breaking eye contact. Nothing existed but her.

The little girl was perched on her hip.

I trailed my fingers down her jawline. She still didn't move.

"Why did toi leave?"

Chapter Two

A mois later…

“Hungry?” Xavier asked.
“Starving.” I replied. Xavier went into the fridge and pulled out a tan plastic bowl and a smaller turquoise bowl. He placed the bowl of fresh fruit in front of me and the small bowl of plain yogurt. He handed me a fork.
“Enjoy.” He said. Xavier kissed me on my forehead.
“Thank you.” I said.
I began to eat when I heard a moan. Xavier looked down at his shoes.
“Um…after breakfast do toi want to go for a walk?” Xavier asked.
“Xavier, what’s that sound?” I asked.
“It’s…Madison.” He choked out.
“Doing what?” I asked....

Nine hours.

I was exhausted after it.

Rion came into the hospital room. He took my hand, and told me softly that I had a little girl.

"Rion, there is no way I will ever be able to tell toi just how thankful I am that I have you," I sighed, before I drifted into a deep black mist.

I held my little girl close to me. I was filled with an indescribable l’amour for this small creature, who I had worked so hard to bring here. Who I already loved.

I took on the job of his personal assisstant, and I made a point to remember everything, from the way he liked his coffee to the way his bureau needed re-organizing every few days.

The early morning sun casts light into my dark room, i hate the light, just reminds me of what i wake up to every morning. The yelling from across the hallway, the creaking sound of my siblings bedroom doors opening and closing as they continue to refuse to exit their rooms.

My story will start where everybody else's starts. At birth. I was born on a Memorial Day. There was only one doctor and he was too busy watching the Orlando Magic game to help my mother bring a child into the world. And so, I was a half time baby. With the Magics losing, my family waiting in the hall, and the doctor wishing he was watching the game, I was pushed harshly into this cold, bright and scary world.
First words out of my father's mouth when the doctor placed me into his hands, "Heidi's kinda ugly, isn't she?" For God's sake! I was just pulled out of a woman's stomach! The nurses...

He embarked to his room, without another word to Simon ou any other members of Daphnes family. As soon as he stepped through the frame, he saw Mel in bed, waiting for him. She put down the book she was reading, on the side table, tableau and elegantly unblanketed herself from under the covers.

Time is just a thing.
toi can't ever have to little.
toi can always have enough.
But when toi look at it,
our lives are just a piece.
A piece of what time has to give.
So why not live the fullest,
to what we can.
Why waste it wishing,
on something you'll never have.
Let time do its own thing,
so we can do ours.
toi see time is mysterious.
It controls our lives.
And in one quick second,
our time may be up.
So take what you're given,
and give nothing back.
With time nothing is ever what it seems.

I'm not on the way to anything great,
I'm just drifting, drifting down this road.
The dust kicking up behind me,
Just a nuage to hide my past.
My feet don't leave any footprints,
My name never graces those lips
That I'm watching from a distance,
A distance that grows greater
As I'm drifting, drifting down this road.

I'm not on the way to anything great,
I'm just hiding, hiding down in the dark.
The shadows closing in around me,
Just a blanket to smother my past.
My eyes can't see in the gloom,
My voice never breaks the silence
That I keep deep in my heart,
A cœur, coeur that grows blacker
As I'm drifting, drifting in the dark.
I didn't care about Patrick's complement as much as I was worried about the sad look in his eyes. What was causing it? Ema told me they loved each other and they're happy together, what would make him so sad? I had to know and decided to find out about that while I'm in their house.
One week passed for me there. And as long as Ema is to busy arranging the house and running it, as long as Patrick and I spent plus time together. And of course, the initial reaction to a titre like this one is, "Well, why don't you make me care about what you're saying, first?"

So I'll cut straight to the chase: When submitting a short story, ou even a poem for publication in a literary magazine, keep in mind that the editors receive hundreds of submissions a day, which means that they don't have time to read every last one of them. This is why it is incredibly important to hook them in your first few sentences, other than start slow and verbosely build up to why they should care. Therefore, this will be a succinct explanation of why...
