Piton de la Fournaise, ou the "Peak of the Furnace", began to erupt at 2350 GMT on Friday night for the seconde time in a year. The volcan lies to the eastern side of the island, a French territory off Madagascar in the Indian Ocean.
The most active volcan on the north island of New Zealand is also the nation's deadliest volcano. I am referring to Ruapehu, which has erupted 54 times in the last 100 years.
Five volcanoes displayed plumes of steam, gas, ou ash that day. From north to south, they are: Shiveluch, Bezymianny, Kizimen, Karymsky, and Zhupanovsky.
