I love V.C. Andrews. The more VCA books I read, the more parallels I see between them and the Twilight series.
Stylistically, they're similar. The protagonists are also usually similar. They're all Bella-type characters (or Bella's a VCA type character). There's usually a strong sense of forbidden love in all the books, but VCA girls are a lot less loyal than Bella. There's also a lot less morality in VCA books.
I wasn't alive in the 70s or 80s, so I don't know how VCS books impacted society, but I'm sure it's not too different, relativity. I'm assuming life back then was a lot less "fandom" driven.
I think Fans of Stephenie Meyer would love V.C. Andrews too.
