 RIley as a Human
RIley as a Human
I looked at the paper in front of me. My mind was drawing a huge blank - with a capital "B." I rubbed my eyes tiredly. What time was it? I a volé, étole a glance at the clock. Ugh... 3:47am? I threw my pencil down on my bureau in frustration. I could hear my colleague snoring so very loudly that I thought I might just smother his face with a pillow.
I sighed and looked out the window. How was I supposed to write a whole sociology term paper in less than two days? I guess that's what I get for putting it off this late. I looked at the clock again, and I was tempted to climb into lit and fall asleep like my abnoxious friend over there, but I can't put this off any longer. Two plus hours passed before I finally had four paragraphs written and over with. I sluggishly dragged my body over to my bed. Finally. I think I crashed before I hit the mattress.

It seemed as though the seconde I fell asleep was the seconde my alarm went off. I groaned and hit the alarm, vigourously. My colleague, Ryan, threw a oreiller at me. "Cmon man, we're gonna be late for class." Ryan was a total goody goody and I absolutely despised him. I got out of lit and walked over to the bathroom. He stood in front of the doorway, hand raised, like as if he was about to say something - but I slammed the door before he could utter a word.

Class was a drag - probably because I was so tired. If only there was some way, some world, in which there was no such thing as sleeping. After class I headed towards my dorm when I heard a familiar voice. "Riley! Riley, salut wait up!" I turned around as Sally, a long-haired girl who liked to wear pink, skipped up to me in the most lively manner. "Hey Riley, what's up?" I shrugged and looked indifferent. "Not much Sal - salut can we talk later? I'm in a huge rush and I don't have time to-" She cut me off then. "Me and some Friends were going to hang out at The Coffee Pot this evening - Madison, Drake, Aron, Mary... umm... Oh and Emily of course. I was just wondering if toi would like to come along." Emily was just about the prettiest girl I had ever seen, and Sally was asking me if I wanted to go and hang out with her? This was kind of... Well... Unbelievable. I decided to play it cool, like I get invited to this kind of stuff all the time. "Um, yeah sure, I'll come." I smiled. "I need to get out of my dorm plus often anyways."
She raised her eyebrows. Oops... I almost smacked my head and called myself an idiot right then, but she just clapped her hands together twice and said, "Great! I'll see toi at 9 o'clock sharp, tonight. The Coffee Pot. It's just around the corner on Cecilia Rd. Kay?" I nodded. "Kay." She walked away and joined in with her possy.
Wow... Did that just actually happen? I shook my head and walked away casually. I went upstairs to my dorm and opened the door. When I came in, I saw my colleague sitting on the bed. He tossed something to me, but it was so unexpected that I didn't catch it in time and it hit the floor. I winced when I found out that it was my phone. "Thanks." I raised my eyebrows. "Nice throw," I a dit sarcasticlly. He smiled, incredulously saying, "Nice catch. Anyways, your...," He guffawed aloud to himself, "Mom called." I heard some muffled chuckles outside and I hastefully closed the door. I picked up and my phone and threw myself onto the bed, and hit the "redial" butten. It took one ring and my mother answered. "Hello?"
"Yo Mom, what's new?"
"Oh sweetheart, It's you." My mom never, ever plugged numbers into her phone. She likes to dial them the old fashioned way. "Yeah Mom, it's me." I could hear the smile in her voice. "How's college, hun?"
"Eh, it's okay..."
"Is something wrong?"
"Nah, I'm okay. I'm just stressed that's all."
She hesitated before answering. "Do toi want to talk about it?" My eyebrows pulled together. "No." A couple secondes passed. "Alright, well... Has anything special happened since toi got there? Have toi met a girl?" Again I heard the smile in her voice. "No Mom, I'm just going to The Coffee Pot with a couple of Friends tonight. No biggy."
"Oh, have fun dear."
I heard my father talk in the background - probably speaking to one of his clients. "Yeah...so, I'll talk to toi later, Mom. I-I..." I looked at my friend; he was listening to his iPod. "I l’amour you. Tell Dad that I l’amour him too."
"I will, sweetheart. toi have fun."
"Thanks. Bye Mom.
"Bye, honey."
I hit the end call button, as I turned around so my back was laying on the bed. My friend starting laughing. I looked for something to throw at him, but then I decided against it. "What? It's not like toi don't say 'I l’amour you' to your mom." My eyes narrowed. He looked at me, eyebrows raised. "Hah! You're right, I don't! Hahaha!" I half-smiled and rolled my eyes. "Whatever man." He smiled. "So, got any big plans tonight?" My eyes narrowed again. "You were obviously eavesdropping on my convo. So, I guess that's a rhetorical question."
He laughed. "Yeah well, are toi going to invite me, pal? toi know I got feelings for Emily. She's Sally best friend and I know for a fact, that she will be there."
No way in hell was Ryan going. He would absolutely ruin everything! I would not, could not invite him. He'd probably make some kind of a joke about how I say 'I l’amour you' to my Mom. I shook my head. "Aw, hells no! And don't toi dare follow me." He sighed and looked away. "Fine." He glowered.
Ryan and I may be colleagues, and we may share the same dorm, but we are not friends. I suddenly looked at the bureau and a thought hit me like a lightning bolt. The sociology term paper! My teeth clenched.
I already promised that I was going to go to The Coffee Pot with Sally and co. Now what am I supposed to do? Then... I looked at Ryan - the straight "A" student. A plan began to form in my mind - I have no choice. I sighed. "Hey, Ryan." He was lire a book. "Hm?"
I sat up. "I have a proposition to make with you." He put down his book and looked up at the ceiling. "And what would that be, may I ask?" I grinned. "You write a sociology term paper for me. I, in return, will invite toi to The Coffee Pot." His eyebrows raised. "Umm... toi can't be serious?"
"Oh, I'm dead serious. I've already written four paragraphs. All I need is the conclusion and then it's done." His eyes slitted. "I don't know..." I grabbed the five-dollar-bill sitting on the nightstand and started to fan myself with it. "Are toi sure? I came over and waved it in his face - back and forth." He snatched it and jumped over into the twisty chair. "Fine. It's a done deal, brother."
"Awesome, thanks man."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, just as long as I can get outta here and hang out with Emily. I paused as I was about to exit the dorm. "By the by, don't toi dare say anything to humiliate me while we're there. If toi do, you'll pay for it, I assure you. I know where toi keep your baby pics par the way." He turned around in the chair. "Wait, Riley! How do toi kno-?" I closed the door. Chuckling to myself, I headed downstairs. I felt kinda stuffy in that room, and I don't like staying in it for long. I simply have to get out of there every moment that I can. I walked outside and decided to leave campus. I could take a drive around town, I needed some new lire material anyway. I got inside and revved the engine to life.
It didn't take that long to find the nearest book store. I parked the car and put on my shades. Seattle was suprisingly sunny today. When I got out of the car, I saw the most palest woman I had ever seen in my life. She had flowing red hair - like fire. And her skin was so pale... I shrugged. Probably an albino. I shouldn't stare. For some odd reason, as the sliding glass doors slid open, I felt as though the albino, red-hair was watching me. I turned and looked. She was watching me. I walked inside. Whatever. I went straight upstairs and bought the suivant book in the action series I was reading, and payed for it in absolutely no rush.
Not having to do the paper made me feel a bit better. Like as if a huge weight was lifted off of my shoulders.
Maybe tonight will help me ease up a bit. I need to get out and hang out for a bit. I've been sitting in a dusty old room for way to long. I passed par an isle that was dull and full of black books. Just to pass the time I went down the isles - scanning all the different titles. Diary of a Vampire? Bats in the Night? What a load of crap. What junkie, goth person would read such things? I went over to the sitting area and began lire my book.
Out of my peripheral version, I saw a flame. A red flame. I looked towards the window, but I saw nothing. Huh... I thought I saw... I shook my head, and continued my book. When I looked at the clock I saw that it was 8:47pm. I should start heading over to The Coffee Pot right now. I picked up my book and ran out to the car. I wasn't going to walk into The Coffee Pot with a book in my hand.
I considered driving my car, but that would be a waste of gas. I'll just walk. It's just around the corner anyway.
It had started to drizzle, but I didn't mind. I kinda liked the rain. It was calming to me, just like feu crackling in a warm room. I walked around the corner into a dark alley. I think this is a shortcut, either way it was okay. Fashionably late ou just on time is fine with me.
All of the sudden I was thrown against the wall. Like a wrecking ball had just knocked into me. I hit the mur and I could've sworn I felt something crack. I fell to the floor, gasping and winded. The air had been driven right out of me. Had I been hit par a car, coming down the alley behind me and not known it? I gasped and tried to get up. I looked around anxiously but there was nobody around. That couldn't've been a car. It was too... cold and stone-like. I heard a strange noise - like a growl, so I cautiously looked behind me. Nothing. I started to run up the alley and eventually I saw the street. Looking across, I could see The Coffee Pot. There was Sally and the gang. I yelled in panic, "Hey!" I started to run across the street, when I was thrown again. This time I went farther and I hit a small mur bordering the side of a resevoir at a sick angle. I couldn't see what was throwing me about like a rag doll. I couldn't make out much of anything due to the rainfall obscuring my vision. I slid down to the pavement, and I cried out in pain.
I got back up and tried to stand, when the unexpected happened. I felt a thick, sharp, wet object cut through my hand and then everything started burning. It felt like a sharp couteau had cut into my hand, coated in citron jus, jus de - but way plus potent. I screamed out in agony. feu filled my world. Aching... painful feu and it coursed through my veins like crazy.
I wanted to die. I wanted to die right there on the pavement. I screamed some more, but nobody came to my aid. How can anyone not hear me? I lay, face up on the pavement - screaming up into the black sky. I gasped for air, and I felt my muscles constricting and unconstricting inside me. I could've been laying there forever, burning - forever burning. No pain in the world can match this. The pain was stubborn as it shocked me like a thousand volts of lighning was running down my skeleton. Was that it? Was I hit par a lightning bolt? People live sometimes when they get hit par lightning bolts. This sort of pain just doesn't exist!
No cars came. No people came. There were no witnesses. Am I going crazy? Am I dying? I hope I am. Death would be so comfortable, but there was no escape. Hours passed and still nothing.
Gradually, my breathing began to slow, and I soon became neutral. I could feel myself fading. The feu that remained in my fingertips was subsiding. My vision was turning black. Is death finally claiming me? I guess it was. Before I blacked out I saw one singular thing. A flame. A red flame...
