"Edward, what did you... do while toi were gone?"
"Pretty much died."
"No, did toi meet anyone?"
Why would Bella ask something like that?
"Well, Tanya took in another female for her clan in Denali, but that's all."
Bella's face fell. Was that what she was expecting? Another female? Hadn't I told her at one point she was the only one for me? Then it dawned on me.
"What did Victoria tell you?" I asked.
"She a dit toi and Jacob were dead," she responded. But it felt like she was only telling half of the truth.
"Bella-"
"Fine. She a dit toi met a beautiful new girl in Denali, and toi loved her."
I couldn't believe this. She actually believed this lie?! Then I realized, I had left, saying I didn't l’amour her anymore. But even then, how could she still believe this lie, when I'm here, declaring I loved her ever since I met her?

Bella was crying. No, she shouldn't cry!
"Don't be mad at me," she whimpered. Oh, I must be looking angry. ou violent.
"Bella, I can never be angry with you. I l’amour you. But why would toi believe this lie? The female thought I was mentally challenged when I didn't respond to her looks. I never talked to her, and she never talked to me, although she was attracted," I said. Bella looked at me skeptically. "You're the only one for me."
Bella relaxed.
"You silly human," I laughed lightly.
"Speaking of human..." Bella hinted faintly, knowing I knew what she was talking about.
"No," I growled.
"Please, Edward? Carlisle a dit toi would do it if my cœur, coeur took a turn for the worse, he'd called Alice."
"Only if toi were dying."
"Please, I am dying."
"I'll never take away your soul."
"You took it when toi first declared toi loved me."
"And I should have never gotten so close to you."
"Don't. Don't say that, please."
Bella was crying. That's when I realized what she heard in that last sentence.
"No, Bella, I'll never leave you."
"What if toi did, when I'm an old lady?"
"I wouldn't."
"So you'll let me get old?"
"Yes, and I'll keep toi out of harm's way."
Bella turned away.
"I would've been dead."
"What do toi mean?"
"If my cœur, coeur took a turn for the worse, and toi left me to die, refusing to change me, I'd be dead. And toi promised never to kill yourself, not even after I'm dead."
"Bella, how can I survive... If the only reason I still exist is dead?"
Her eyes sparkled when I described her.
"You were the light in a cave, a cave with many openings. toi led me into a path, but I took a different one. I was blind, lost, and I'm glad that path had a detour back towards you."
Bella sighed and buried her face in my chest.
"Where's my stuff?" she said, muffled as she refused to déplacer away. She was intoxicated par my scent.
I held her there, feeling the warmth tingle from her breath.
"They're under your floorboards. It seemed wrong to keep them," I murmured.
She laughed. It sounded like a heavenly chorus to me, her laugh. I'd died when I left, and went to Heaven par seeing her and embracing her again. I guess there is a chance, like Carlisle said.
"What are toi thinking about?" Bella asked when she looked up.
"I'm thinking I may have already gone to Heaven," I chuckled. Then I leaned in to Kiss her.
"Please, Edward. toi have hope in you. You've already taken my soul. I want to be with toi forever."
"Please, Bella, I've already a dit no."
"Forever," she emphasized. I opened my mouth and shook my head. No sound came out.
"Edward..." she whispered.
"Now?"
"What?"
"You want to change now?"
"Yes..."
I laid her down on my couch. I kissed her in resign. Her cœur, coeur beat faster. My lips trailed toward her throat. I kissed her for a while, savoring the taste...
Then I paused, unsure of what pain I might cause her.
"It's okay, Edward, I can handle it."
That is so Bella. I hesitated. Then I braced myself for my first bite.
