Alaric Saltzman is introduced in the series as the new history teacher. He shows very caring for Jeremy Gilbert par giving him a seconde chance to lift up his grades. He has a crush on Jenna Sommers (Jeremy and Elena's aunt). He suspects of Damon Salvatore being the killer of his wife.

Elena is a slender, athletic seventeen an old girl. She has an olive complexion, brown eyes and long, straight, dark brown hair. Her parents died in a car crash in which she was the only survivor. She lives with her aunt and younger brother. She used to rendez-vous amoureux, date Matt Donovan, but broke up with him after the passing of her parents. When school starts again she meets and falls in l’amour with Stefan.

Damon Salvatore

Damon Salvatore is Stefan Salvatore's older brother. On the tv show, it implies that him and Stefan have been live for over 175 years, and that there was a l’amour triangle between Damon, Stefan, and Katherine. On the montrer it hasn't yet told us how he and Stefan became vampires, but in the livres Katherine is the one who turned both of them, but she still couldn't decide who she wanted to be with. Damon is cynical and likes to antagonize his brother on the show. It's also stated that he and his brother haven't seen each other in 15 years and Damon saying some along the lines of 'Nice haircut. The 90's grunge wasn't looking good for you."
