Well it is two totally different kinds of love.
Madame Giry has a protective motherly love for him
and Christine loves him in the romantic sense and also a bit as a friend.

I couldn't resist picking myself... xD But anyway Madame Giry. Definitely. She stuck with him for all those years and she could have easily given away his location years before these events happened, but didn't. And I know Christine had some love for him, and I understand how she wouldn't have wanted to live down there, but if you read the book the Phantom would have bought a normal house for her... They don't mention his plans in the movie/play but I'm sure it would have been the same. And it was wrong for her to rip off his mask in front of the audience like that. But the Phantom did so much for her... And technically, she wouldn't even have Raoul without him, because she wouldn't have been able to sing that night, therefore he would have never recognized her. But yeah I love him the most ^_^ I don't know about any of you, but I'd stay down there. xD

Well, Christine's heart was indicated to have stayed with the Phantom all her life on a level that it affected also Raoul - even though they'd for all we know had a happy marriage and children together. I mean, the whole story is told basically through Raoul's memories while he's taking the Phantom's monkey music box to her grave. And monkey symbolizes soul, freedom, inspiration and lot of other things that strongly relate to the Phanmtom and Christine's relationship, and over-all a monkey is said to reveal what's going on in one's inner life.

All we see about Madame Giry is that she's bidding for that music box.

Anyway, I'm sure they meant there to be more love/deeper emotion from Chrisrine to the Phantom.

Christine is the beloved one for Erik (Phantom). :-)

I would say Christine loved the Angel of Music as opposed to the Phantom himself...hate me if you want to but that's how I see it. Of the two of them, I think Madame Giry cared more about him, even if she didn't love him, per se. This is moot, however, because neither of them love him half as much as I do. XD

I love the Phantom people are scared of him but to me he's a really nice guy on the inside and if anyone would give him the time of day attention they'd find themselves a really nice guy/friend

Me! Though I can see why Christine may have chosen raoul but that being said I agree with the above comment above that in reality erik is a nice guy underneath and he needed someone that could love him back though Christine did but sadly left him.
