The ‘Maze Runner’ Sequel Features A Threat Worse Than Zombies, According To Rosa Salazar
The \'Maze Runner\' sequel will Crank things up.
Life is good for Rosa Salazar. Not only is she starring in this weekend’s “The Divergent Series: Insurgent,” Salazar also has a big role in “The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials” later this year, continuing the journey of the escaped Gladers like Thomas, Teresa and the rest — and her character, Brenda, presents a whole new host of problems.
Salazar told MTV News that her character meets the other heroes out in a deserted wasteland called the Scorch, which gets its name from its sun-scorched and uninhabitable landscape. Except it’s not
uninhabitable: Salazar’s Brenda has lived there since she was 15, as have the Cranks, a deadly and diseased group of new enemies.
“They’re like zombies, but worse,” she describes of these monsters. “They have this thing called the Flare, which is a disease that turns them into sniveling monsters.”
How does Brenda help Thomas and friends through the Scorch and the Cranks? All will be revealed in the “Maze Runner” sequel, but for now, Salazar is more than happy to reveal just how happy she was while making the movie.
“I’m very proud of it, just as much as I’m proud of ‘Insurgent.’ It’s really hard to favor one experience over the other. I’m really lucky. I won the raffle.”
“The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials” hits theaters on September 18.
