okay here's my reasoning
the best buffy episodes are written best but angel n consistently good....if that makes sense?

yea it does debs. buffy has more episodes were you would sit back and go "wow" i.e hush the body OMWF but Angel had a level of consitency that Buffy never had

I agree. Angel continued to bring in new light to the episodes even the dark in season 4. Everyone agrees that that's the darkest season. Even though Buffy brings to light allot of good episodes and has awesome characters, storylines and is the first. Angel still brings out more. :)

I do agree with the above comments, but I thought the last 2 seasons of Angel were poorly written just because I didn't understand a lot of it. I haven't watched it in a while, but the lingering feeling for me was that it was over the top and confusing.

I can't choose. Seasons 2 and 3 of Buffy are absolutely expertly written but are let down by S5 (we're out of ideas, how do we keep Spike alive and make keep Buffy's life interesting after-school) and worst of all S6. All seasons of Angel are good and well-written but the finales of S2, S3 and S4 are all either yawn-worthy (sorry, watched When She Was Bad last night) or just poor (Jasmine).

When both shows are at their best though I don't think there's any two shows better written. In what other show could you have the line "What about me? I love you so much... And I tried to make you go away... I killed you and it didn't help..." Brilliant!

As far as 'Chosen', 'Power Play' and 'Not Fade Away' go, it doesn;t matter how many times I watch them I still find them totally amazing.

I have to agree with some people up above but Buffy and Angel were the best Well Written shows EVER!!! and Dollhouse and the other works of Joss Whedon are GREAT!!! Uh, I have to disagree with Joker up there cuz by S5 Buffy VS Glory was a GREAT idea...Were all used to Buffy facing the bad=demons, Vamps, etc but when she found out that Glory had the strength and skill of a Slayer and when she was told by the Council that Glory is a God was just...WHOA! cuz you never expected it to be like that far...thought...and Joss comes up with great ideas and S2 was great Buffy VS bad Angel was a good/GREAT!!! idea and a HUGE!!! turn for the fans of Buffy The Vampire Slayer...

S6 was a good idea too showing that Buffy also has feelings for more than 1 Vamp thats good...Spike loving Buffy by S4 was just wierd cuz we saw him as a bad Vamp whos loving a Bad Vamp/Drusilla and is going to TRY to kill the Slayer any chance he got...but when he had the dream of him kissing Bufy shirtless that was also WHOA!!! cuz we didnt see Spike like that at all!!! So Spike and Buffy having a secret Love like was a GREAT idea...S7 brought my attention REALLY FAST!!! with the MORE THAN ONE Slayer THING! that was all Joss (hopefully?) and was a great move to do with the First being brought back from Season 1-3 when the First tried to make Angel kill himself! that was again WHOA!!! cuz the First and Caleb were great and as Marti Noxon said that "With Bad Times Comes Great Consequences" (Caleb taking Xander's left eye in the Vineyard in S7) which is true..they couldnt have Caleb just be marked down as BAD!!! and not have him kill or do anything whic hwas well played out and well written...

"EARSHOT" in S3 was a good episode (to be true that was the VERY first episode of Buffy I ever saw and I remember that day too..I woke up on a Saturday morning -this was when they aired them on Channel 11 on Sat mornings and Sat. nights!- I turned it to channel 11 and saw Buffy running from that scaley no-mouth demon and I sat there and watched the episode...I liked it ever since) and I was in shock that someone created a GREAT! show and I was watching it on my TV!!! I didnt hear about the Columbine till S6 in the SPECIAL FEATURES on the DVD's and I was again in shock cuz I can't believe somebody did that! and I stayed in tune with Buffy form Seasons 1-7 and I'm reading Season 8 (in comics) right now! so GO TEAM JOSS!!!

Angel was pretty screwed up in some seasons, particularly season 4. It was absolutely ridiculous.
